WINe is a program which allows you to run windows programes. on it web site it says it can be downloaded for linux and unix. i really dnt want ot run an emulator within an emulator (x11) and i remeber reading somewhere that is has also be adapted for mac os x. is that true and if so where do i find it to download.

also how good is WINE?

WINE is indeed not an emulator, but an implementation of the Windows API. What it is not is a virtual machine. So it would not enable you to run x86 code (i.e. almost all pre-compiled windows programs) on a PPC chip (your Mac). Please search the archives: people ask this every so often.

What it would enable you to do is to run some open-source Windows specific programs by compiling WINE on your Mac and then compiling the open source code on your Mac. This results a PPC compiled WINE and a PPC compiled Windows App.

WINE uses x86 assembly code. The only open source emulator for x86 on PPC is bochs.
