Boycott NBC !!!

Write to NBC right here (http://www.nbc.com/Footer/Contact_Us/) and tell them you are going to boycott their programs until they return to iTMS at the same price as everybody else. Surely MR readers can generate enough email to scare the **** out of NBC, and when they fall back in line, other media conglomerates will be afraid to make such demands -- a result that serves us as consumers.

$4.99 is ridiculous. Let them know what you think.

I like the idea of putting pressure on them, but how 'bout this:

Start a web campaign to make their various season premiers (the Office, Battlestar, etc) the most torrented shows ever. Set up some some banners, ribbons, signatures, whatever, and prime the pump for some piracy.

Just need a slogan and a graphic.

I guess we could just say, "I was going to subscribe to seasons of Heroes and The Office at iTMS, but now I will just pirate them instead!"

Dude, it was a business decision, not an attack on Apple. NBC can charge whatever they want for their shows and if Apple doesn't agree then I don't see anything wrong with it.

I think calling for a boycott on NBC sounds like some lame Apple Fanboy plan. I mean, is it really that big of a deal?

I buy all my television via iTMS or DVD and watch things like the news in free and legal online feeds. I just think that we should play upon the fears of the suits who made this crap decision to demand so much from iTMS.

Maybe we should just start emailing them torrent links. Nothing illegal in doing that. Tell them what we think at the site in the OP and use a torrent address as a signature at the bottom of the message.

I don't consider letting NBC know how we feel about their pricing policies to be immature. Quite normal behaviour. Sorry it pushes your buttons. Don't read the thread if you aren't interested, eh?

I've been boycotting NBC ever since I quit my job working for an NBC affiliate a year ago. ;)

I wrote an email to them when this all came out and let them know how I felt. I think that is the best thing to do. It is a business decision not an attack on Mac users, but that doesn't we have to like it. And a boycott is one way to show you don't approve, after all the concept of the free market is that you vote with you money. If NBC sees that their business decreases they have to reconsider. Doesn't mean they'll come back but it does mean they'll *probably* think about it.

Boycotting is a form of politics, nothing immature about it. Writing to them to let them know that they have to sell on iTunes or you will steal is not boycotting though, that is just stealing. Plenty of folks will do that (which is why it is a bad business decision), but threatening them isn't the way to accomplish anything meaningful.

Yeah, I wrote them an email as well when this news was first made public explaining to them that, because I can't set my schedule around the TV I just download all of my shows that I watch from iTunes to put on my iPod for later viewing. I simply told them that their decision to remove themselves from iTunes meant that I would no longer be able to watch any NBC programs. It was simple and to the point without being childish or threatening illegal activity.

Yeah it kinda is. Some of us layed out some cash (like $400 for an Apple TV) mainly for enjoying this program. Some of us (living overseas) don't have the option of watching this program on television/cable.

Secondly, an attempt at strong arming a 150% price hike is an absurd display or out of control corporate greed and is well deserving of a consumer backlash and a little financial punishment.

I purchased Season I on iTunes and would have purchased Season II before NBC's blunder. Now I'll watch it in pirated segments on iTunes or via a Torrents download (which takes about 30 seconds to find) until NBC learns a good lesson. As soon as they come back to reality and have learned not to alienate their fan base with ridiculous pricing, I'll be happy to go back to being a paying customer (that I will remain with all the other networks).

This is the way to do it, not by threatening piracy.
