Nano charges but fails to mount

My first gen 2GB nano just refuses to mount. All that's happening is the battery charge screen is showing up on the iPod but there's absolutely no sign of it on the desktop, in Finder or iTunes.

Anyone got any suggestions?

If you have multiple USB ports on your computer, try using a different USB port. If this works, the USB port is at fault, not the iPod.
