No he died, and Apple is paying tribute to the legend. They do this often for people such as him, passes away.

It's just in his honor. He was a Mac user, and participated in many Apple events. ;)
I don't recall if he was on a poster back during the campaign or not.

Does Apple need to have approval from the Hines estate for something like this? It could be seen as capitalizing on someone's death (not that I think that Apple is). He was an Apple Master and he was an active Mac user.

I think legally the only question would be around the rights to the photos used in the tribute. I doubt very much there is a problem with either copyrights or his family because of the way it is done. No "buy Apple," but rather a tribute to an extraordinary life.

And what's wrong with the tribute? I think its great and that any familly members of Gregory Hines would have to appreciate it.
