iPod how to insert breaks btwn songs for iPod

My wife is an elem school music teacher, she was issued an iPod and speaker system.
Some of the curriculum CD's have NO breaks in the songs and she needs a couple of seconds between them. I know how to insert breaks for burning CD's but not when exporting/Syncing with iPod.
I am using 10.3.9 and iTunes 7.2 (34).

Hi Stu! I've tried to do this on several occasions, amd even started a couple of Apple Discussions about it, with no success. All I can think of is to create a two second blank "song" in Garage Band and insert it repeatedly between songs.

Thanks skunk, I appreciate it.
I have spent the last 18 months at AVS forum and haven't spent much time here, didn't know if I was crazy or rusty, good to know it can't be done within the program.
I hope all has been well with you? I seem to be a human cyborg, part dad part ATM.
