The Joy Division Movie looks good. It's funny- I listened to them all the time in my college days. I guess I'm not as depressed as I was back then, because I recently listened to Unknown Pleasures and found it unbelievably dull. Closer is a classic though as well as some of the singles. I'm looking forward to the movie.

We shall see. If it's really all based on Deborah Curtis' book, I'd expect it to be a bit one-sided, but you know I'm still in line to see it opening night.

Yeah, the JDs also resonated deeply with my depressed high school/collegiate self almost 20 years ago. I feel I get a lot more out of the music now that I'm not consumed by depressing and self-loathing. I don't find Unknown Pleasures dull at all, but I do find Martin Hannett's production work on that album did not age very well. Most of those songs sound a lot better on the various official and bootleg live albums floating around.

For some reason, my favorite JD album is the first disc of Still. The tracks were all various odds and ends, but somehow they just worked so well together.

I'm still a bit amazed about the longevity of Joy Division. I see kids half my age wearing t-shirts with the Unknown Pleasures cover art or hear them blasting the albums behind the counter at the local pizza joint. Tony Wilson was right once again, and 20 years too far ahead of his time to cash in once again...

i think sigur ros is awesome, so i'm very much looking forward to their dvd release, as well as their double cd album release. there's a lot of other really good releases coming out right now, i haven't been disappointed by a whole lot this year yet so let's hope the trend continues.

Hmm...yeah, I guess I was never a huge fan of Unknown Pleasures in the first place. Closer drew me in though. What a haunting, frightening record. The cover alone lets you know you're in for a rough ride. You're right though, the first disc of Still is awfully good.

OT- but I get annoyed with the Joy Division/Interpol comparisons/criticisms. They are/were very different bands. They are slightly similar vocally. So what? How many singers sound like Robert Plant? Half the metal world. I like Interpol a lot. I like Joy Division. The kids in the record stores need to lighten up. I was listening to Joy Division after Ian had just died for god's sake. To have some kid tell me to go look for Joy Division when I ask about Interpol is insulting.
