FiOS and Airport Extreme

I am an new Verizon FiOS Internet customer in a new house. I have a few dead spots in my house with my Airport Extreme. Is it possible to use my FiOS wireless router as my main wireless router and use the Airport Extreme as a wireless Access Point in order to extend my wireless signal?

Yes, if the Verizon router can be used to set up a WDS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wireless_Distribution_System). What's the router make and model number. Or you could run a cat5 cable to one of the LAN ports on the Extreme (and turn off its DHCP server).
