Nope, dont have that kind of money, the ipod killed me. Heh, on a diff note, isnt it glorious to see this virus hurting all these windows computers, while we mac users are completly unharmed? yet another perk of being a mac user....:D

Well, I'm waiting till the 18-19 Aug. (when MacBid said the updates will be).

If nothing comes out, I'll go for a 17".

I'm getting old waiting!!

Waiting since april for a new 15'''pbook but I do have a 800 tower to keep me happy. I have debated on and off the option of a new tower plus cheapest ibook but its not as convenient and money is an issue. But the g5 coming meant I put that off.

For now i am content to wait and I plan to revaluate after paris expo. But I suspect that if 2-3 months from now I can walk into a store play with a g5 loaded with Panther and walk out with it under my arm and still no 15'' then it wont be hard for a salesman to persuade me...

I waited until today (one last chance for a Tuesday announcement), the deadline I decided was the last minute. I'll probably order a PowerBook tomorrow, hoping to have it before school starts. I haven't decided whether to go for the iPod deal or not.

Got tired of waiting for the 15", bought a dual 1.25 G4 instead. Don't need portability, although it is quite convenient. Maybe I'll get a 15" G5 PowerBook in a few years.....

Well, I'm waiting for the NEXT round of updates. I'm starting Law School in either May of 04 or January of 05 and hope we'll have the G5 processors and perhaps a totally new re-design by then.

While I love the al/ti look of the PowerBook line, I'd like to see something perhaps a little more sturdy. While I feel I need the power of an PowerBook, the iBooks are very rugged machines.

I bought a 500mhz when the G4 line was first introduced over two and a half years ago. Though it still continuies to meet all my immediate needs I'd still like more speed and more power.

It will, some day, it's just a matter of time. (That said, I do find it humorous that the payload of MSBlast is a denial of service attack on the Windows Update servers.)

This should also remind us all (Windows, Mac, and Linux users alike) to keep our security patches up to date. I learned my lesson a few months ago when someone hacked my Linux box using an ssh security exploit - took over the root user - luckily I caught 'em in the act and pulled the plug on it.

PS: Didn't mean to sound like I'm accusing you of wishing harm to other users, I understand the jist of your comment, that Windows is a POS, just remember that for every machine infected, there's some poor guy/gal who has to deal with it. (Although, Microsoft release a security patch for this on July 15'th)

What was our topic again?:D

because of apple's delay i've gone from needing a really fast 15 to being able to hold off and settle with either their entry 12 or the faster 12...in the time i've been reading these damn rumors i've just gone ahead and updated the hard drive and processor in what was my 533 tower...hell i've even thought of going as low as an iBook just to have another portable, but my original plan was to have a real workhorse...

Ultimately waiting will probably screw you over.

You wait and you wait and you wait and then you just cave in and buy it and then right after they release a new version.

If you need it, buy it right away.

If you can afford to wait a full year for a revision, you don't need it.

I decided to buy one about a month before the ADC so I waited until afterwards to order mine. They didn't get revised but I ordered mine the next day. I got mine last week and I am still very pleased with it.

I filed myself with the "No, was not waiting for these updates" camp. I've been watching for this like the rest of you for quite some time, and have been wondering when the updates will take place, but I don't have a personal vested interest in it, since my current powerbooks work just fine for the job at hand.

That's not to say I wouldn't really want one, I just don't _need_ one.

Waiting and still waiting. Mine will be for work and would replace a PC desktop. Since I have the desktop and it works fine (other than being PC) I am afford to wait. The only issue I have now is since I waited this long, maybe I should wait another month and see if Panther will come with it (if they are introduced next week).

Well, I'm in the "YES, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD UPDATE THE POWERBOOKS" segment. I have a poor Lime iMac DV 400Mhz G3... The poor 'lil guy just cant take it anymore! :( But I have been patiently waiting for my funds to increase and PowerBook updates. Unfortunatley those graphs converged at WWDC and here I am, 4yrs after I bought my iMac waiting, waiting, waiting, for the next revision. While I don't NEED it, as I do have a computer, I am a Graphic Design major and I need something to keep up with me in the future. I WILL be purchasing a 15in AlBook, hopefully soon.

Just my situation... {sigh} it feels good to know i'm not alone!

i just put my order in for a 12 inch combo with a 60 GB hard drive a few days back. i realize this is probably going to bother once the new ones are released, but since i'm upgrading from an old 500 mhz, i think i can live with missing a recent update. the difference will be so huge, i'll live with it quite easily :P

Heck, my old hard drive was 10 GB! Now it's going to be 60! Luckily, the old iBook is staying the family (well, sorta). My girlfriend's dad bought it from me, making him officially a switcher.

Anyone ever wonder if Apple sometimes put up the subject matter of these polls?

Gotta help the production planning a poll like this..

On second thoughts nah I'm allowing myself to get caught up in new P'book histeria again and I'll only be disapointed. Shame interest rates are so low my cash isn't working hard while Moto shafts me (and Apple:rolleyes: )

Gave up, bought 12inch PB. I needed to get working on a project that depends on portable computing.

So far, of course, I've spent a lot more time playing Age of Empires on it than I've spent working on my project. :D

yes, i see what you mean, no i wasnt wishing harm in other users, i was just stating that its sad all of this time and money people lose while microsoft sits there getting richer. Its a shame that people have to do this, but then again, if they had done their research, they would know that microsoft is a greedy, dishonest company, and made the switch to mac.

It does seem like Microsoft has left their code wide open for anyone to screw with your system, whether they intended on that or not.

I think it's hilarious that people have gone on so much about the 12" and the 17" not being updated; look at the disparity between the 12" update and the 15" update.

If they release new powerbooks next week you'll have to shell out for an update in a month or so anyway.
Maybe they are going to release both at the same time.

I gave up waiting a while ago. I bought a 12" PowerBook. I still want to upgrade to a 15" eventually, but this one should last me a while. Maybe long enough to get a 15" G6 PowerBook! ;)

I wouldn't hold my breath on that. In the entire history of personal computing, there have only ever been a few Mac viruses. It all has to do with marketshare and ease of hacking. OS X has advantages in both of these areas. The small market share tends to keep it below the radar of the virus programmers (just as was the case for previous Mac OSes). So, unless you're arguing that we're going to see a sudden ballooning of Apple marketshare, which I find dubious, I doubt that we'll be seeing many Mac OS X viruses coming our way.

To date, the only Mac OS X virus I've ever heard of came in the form of an email that said:

This OSX virus works on the honor system.

I don't know what people you've been listening to, as almost every post I read that's complaining about the need for updates say things like "It's been almost a year since the 15" has been updated... oh, and the 12" and 17" are about due to be updated, too..."

Hey snowy - so you got your powerbook after all! Great stuff. I remember hanging out in desperate hope with you prior to wwdc that the PB's would be updated (even with a g5...cringe).

Hopfully I'll have mine soon too :)

I'm content with the entry level machine. I bought the 500Mhz ``snow'' iBook about 3-4 months after it came out in 2001 - and just bought the 12.1" powerbook last month. Your next machine will ultimately be faster than your current machine - so why spend $3000 every 2-3 years instead of $1500 or less?

The iBook has served me very well - was my primary (everyday) work machine and travel machine (I sometimes play field engineer, so it goes where ever I take it).

Now I have the 12" PowerBook for the same purpose. Only faster.
