As far as I can remember, the 45 minutes ended for 2 reasons:

1. I figured I was pushing my luck and should slow down a little.

2. I needed to fill up.

The latter was the more pressing issue. It sure was fun. Dumb, but fun. It was the middle of the day but while I was passing the occasional car, not to many people on the road. Funny thing was that when I left Toronto there was gridlock for 10-15 minutes. And even after that it took me a while to where I was really out of the metropolitan area and could take it up. I think it was making up time for the gridlock that got me going fast, and then I just kept going faster and faster till I topped it out. From there I just kept my foot down and steered. I tell you it does take some focus and wears you out a little.
Yeah, understandable. If I'm doing over 100, I often worry I'm gunna barrel by a cop doing 60 in the slow lane and not even see him. Thankfully, I'm very good at cop car ID'ing based on tail lights and stuff.

The longest I've had sustained high speed was around 105 coming home from Cape Cod for about 25 minutes... I lucked out, as the traffic got heavier and I slowed it down to about 80, passing a radar gunning cop. But here in Mass, they give you to about 78-80.

Yeah, I've been lucky too. Got pulled over doing 82 or so in Ohio but was doing 110 just 3 minutes earlier.

Been unlucky too. Got pulled over doing 84 or so in Georgia a week later (we had driven from Michigan to Florida for Spring Break) and less than 5 minutes after I got the ticket it started raining so hard you couldn't see well enough to break 50, not to mention it was night.

Amazingly enough, the two times I've been pulled over, the reasons were not speeding:

One was for an out of date inspection sticker, the other, going down a one way street...the wrong way.

154 m.p.h or so on a Suzuki GS 1100 that was a completely tricked out race bike, I remember being tucked behind the little racing fairing thinking if I sat up I would probably be ripped off the bike by the wind. Gone over a 100 a bunch of times but never went anywhere near 150 again.

Fastest I have been is around 100 in a Dodge Ramcharger. (http://www.off-road.com/dodge/ramcharger/) The Speedometer in the Dodge only goes to 83, but I had my friend in front of me in a Toyota Tercel. :) It would have been faster, but I only had 1/2 of a mile of straight road. (Before a 90 degree turn)
I own a Ramrod I have a hot 318 man that thing hauls.
I had to get a dash mount speedo.

I honestly don't really know.

My dad was driving 90mph driving my dog to the vet ER in my mom's Touareg until my mom started screaming at him. I've gone 50mph in unplowed snow in a 35 zone with my dad in his Land Rover Discovery.

That fastest I have driven is probably 75ish. I don't have my license yet though.

In CT it is a rule police cars in speed traps have to have their parking lights on. I was driving along the outskirts of town in a place I have never really driven cause its on the way to nowhere. I didn't really know the speed limit because there were no signs anywhere. So I was going like 60 and all of a sudden I see a cop car pulled over with its lights off like 10ft ahead of me so I just stomped on the brake to try to get down to 45 because I assumed that was a safe speed. It scared the crap out of my mom. Luckily he didn't pull me over though.

Only managing 135 in a 350Z?!?! What is wrong with you??

Yeah, the first time was out in the country and it was not the smoothest of roads so I backed out of it.

The second was on a tollway express lane at midnight, but I had to get on the brakes for a construction site that I was approaching.

The car had more in her, but I think it was fast enough.

My dad hit 160 just to keep up to pace with the rest of the cars, then my mom went insane saying 'WERE GONNA DIE' so we went the slower hi ways...

Exact same story here.

Although my dad accelerated to 180 (kph) and kept telling my mom we were doing 160. :D Mom gets motion sick and had a fit.

I must have gotten to 130mph at least in my old 300M on a trip in FL. It was on the long stretch called Alligator Alley. The od only went to 120, but it took a good 20 seconds after letting off the accelorator before the needle started to drop below 120. I've gone at least 110 in my Pacifica. I haven't pushed it yet, too afraid of getting stopped. The speed od goes to 160mph on it.

yes i went that speed (i have a scangauge2 in my truck, and it gives you a more accurate reading of how fast you are going).

the truck has a governor in it to stop you from going any faster.

my actual fastest is 125 mph in my mom's old infiniti G20 (but i posted this a while back in this thread somewhere)

That doesn't mean it will go 160, or even close to that speed.

My old GSR had a 150MPH speedo but the only way it would ever see 150 is if it was F/I or fell off a cliff.

I'm still not driving yet, but me and a couple of mates drove up past Leeds once. It's a single motorway right there, no cars on, very late. Pushed the car to its limits (with the wind helping) of 130mph/209.21kph. It was actually quite surreal, I thought we were going at 70 or 80. The passenger mirror fell off.

Paul went through at least 2 or 3 speed cameras so the rest of the evening was spent in carte blanche, of speeding past police folk. In the end there wasn't a single repercussion. Barring the missing mirror.

130mph / 210 when I first got my GTI after breaking it in, would've pushed it more but I was entering a high traffic area. Good thing I didn't surpass it, if you pass 150mph the ecu records it and if your dealer checks they will void the warranty (for VW)

Nice!

I'd love to drive on the Autobahn. I've ridden in a car going 120 mph but haven't driven there yet. I feel like, coming from Boston, I'm a danger. lol. That and I need to learn to drive a stick shift....

I've gone about 110mph in a 97 camery (scared the **** out of me cause the thing would only go straight at that speed) and now...well I'm older and I tend not to drive so fast or reckless. Plus I drive an SUV and I'm always afraid of it flipping over....

When I was driving my Series IIa 88" (w/ overdrive) down a mountain in CO I looked at the speedo and (of course) it was fluctuating wildly between 70 and off the top. My wife was behind me and when we got home she said, "Did you know you were going about 80 down that one pass?". I know. Without pedaling we would get up to about 45 mph down the hills, so that gives you a bit of a head start. I don't think I'd do it as an adult now, though, it was pretty intense. It was a long time before I reset my speedometer just so I could flash the max speed number around ;)

Yeah, I've gotten up to about 50 MPH on my bicycle on a hill here in Portland, Oregon. I was passing the rush hour traffic jam commute in the process, getting a *LOT* of angry glares as I happily waved. 50 was WORKING it, though, legs spinning like mad in top gear. A just plain coast gets me up to 40 on the same hill. (It's a 55 MPH highway, I was hoping to exceed the speed limit.)

I'm half surprised the thing didn't just die right after that...

But my opinion's been tainted by my parent's old 1995 Saturn (there was no other model then, it was the Saturn) - stick shift, no tape/cd, no nothing. It was as bare and basic as could be, and I wouldn't be surprised to know it couldn't get up to 110. It was also the most stolen car of 2003 because of a little flaw that made it possible to jam a screwdriver in the ignition and turn it on...

God, I miss it so much. But not enough to not like the top-of-the-line Olds Alero that I might be getting instead. :)

Oh, I should probably say something on-topic - As a driver, I've driven exactly 0 mph. ;) As a passenger, maybe 80.

What can I say, my family's not a bunch of daredevils like some of y'all.

126mph (probably more like 129 with speedometer inaccuracies) in my parents Touareg. I was on this straight, wide, paved, back road in the middle of nowhere. This is also in a town with no police department.

I have to take out the Range Rover Sport someday... Too bad its the 4.4 V8 and not the 4.2 Supercharged

and my mother seldom lets me drive it

I did about 150 on the banking of an oval in a Formula Ford car.
In a street car my max was 94. I'm concerned about the other guy, and speed cuts down your reaction time. I drive on the crowded roads of the eastern U.S.

Last winter I was forced into the worst ski wreck of my life due to an idiot who didn't understand the concept of looking uphill before cutting left.
The ski patrol measured that I was travelling at 92-96mph/147-153kph at the time of impact.
If it wasn't for my lateral bindings, I would have destroyed both legs. As it was, I only sprained both ankles.

Patrick O'Brien
A) There's no way you were going that fast. Even half that would leave your long undies soiled unless you've got legit racing skills (No, NASAR don't count)
B) If you're suggesting that the skier downhill from you was at fault, it is you who is the idiot.

The first two tenets of the Skier's Responsibility Code are as follows:
1) Always stay in control and be able to stop or avoid objects.
2) People ahead of you have the right of way. It is your responsibility to avoid them.

What's ambiguous about that?

Consider yourself lucky in more ways than one. At the mountains where I worked, the patrol would have yanked your ticket and banned you from skiing there forever.
If the person who you hit was seriously injured or, god forbid, killed, you could have been charged with assault or even manslaughter.

(Really. A Colorado skier was convicted of felony wreckless manslaugter for killing another skier in an accident at Vail. You can look it up. I was on the mountain that day and I heard the Medivac helicopter.)

And if the person you hit was my wife or one of my kids, I personally would have destroyed both your legs, and a few other things to boot.

Sometimes natural selection doesn't work quite the way it should.

i think the fastest i've ever driven was 120MPH in my friends Accord.

Other than that...i've broken 100MPH numerous times in other cars, including my 1966 Ford Mustang i had as my first car. I eventually wrecked that car, but i was only 15...didn't deserve that beauty anyway. I'd kill to have it back.

I got up to 105MPH in my 1991 Ford Ranger...that damn thing was litterally falling apart when i did it too....but it made it. Was never the same after that.

My S10 i had limited me to 98MPH

and my Colorado...well, i've never pushed it that hard. Guess i'm getting old how. Hell...i'm almost 25...can't be driving fast and acting stupid anymore.

I've got a little Mazda 3, they're surprisingly quick, especially for a compact. I've been up close to 130 mph in that one (according to the speedometer), I used to work the graveyard shift and there was a long straight little used stretch of freeway on my way to work. The car held up to it just fine and felt like it may go a bit faster even, but it was getting a little squirly and I called it there.

My wife had a 2003 Toyota Corolla when we got married. In that car on our way back from Vegas one time I looked in my rearview and saw a highway patrolman tailgating me, I checked my speedometer and it was at 110 mph, then he passed me and went along at probably 120. No lights, no sirens, but he was an Arizona trooper and he probably wanted to get to Az so he could have a shot at busting me when I pulled through.

120m/hour in a 2003 Chevy TrailBlazer :)
100m/hour in my Nissan

I've laid off recently I've had two warnings of 90 in a 45 so next pull over I lose my license. So when I turn 21 (and I am able to buy my first new car) is when I will break my 120m/hour marker.

I've done 120 (mph) a few times. I've done it in an 07 Subaru Forester and then the other day in my friend's '87 Saab 900 turbo. I should have been able to get another 5 out of it, but my other friend (brother of the owner of the car) thought he remembered his brother mentioning something being a little off with one of the front tires, so I cooled it a bit. I love that Saab so much.

Oh, and I hit 109 in a Prius. I think it had a governor to get it not to go faster than that.

This wasn't top speed, but the batteries died on the camera immediately after taking this photo.

At the Las Vegas Speedway in a CART, I did 180mph laps, on the highway 145mph in a Mercedes SLK, on two wheels, my Kawasaki Ninja ZX-14 does 160 to 180mph very easily.

Ah, to be young and stupid. When I was 16, I was driving my mom's 1974 Dodge Dart (had a 318 in it). Man, I miss that car. Anyway, for those familiar with the South Bay Area, I was on the old Monterey Highway (between San Jose and Morgan Hill) where at that time, police presumably never patroled. I don't really know how fast I was going. The speedometer went to 120mph, and I had it pegged. So maybe 130mph?

One reason why I believe in God. Because I don't think even blind luck would have kept me alive that day. :)

i have reached about 95 mph, that doesn't seem like a lot compared to wut others are saying, but i did this in a 6 year old Dodge Caravan with a transmission that completely failed a week later, but we were planning on getting rid of it anyways, lol

As for myself, about 30 mph. I'm still learning to drive. However, my dad and I once went 130 mph in western New Mexico on his BMW 330 several years ago...he bought an M3 yesterday, and with 414 horsepower, it should be interesting to say the least.

815mph in the Thrust SSC Cockpit Development Simulator in 1996 :)

About 150mph in a Ferrari F355 on a runway in Gloucestershire, and about 110-115 in an FF1600 at Donington, Silverstone and Castle Combe.

My car, 190km/h ~ 120 mph, it wouldn't go any faster. :o

Formula 3000 around 210 km/h ~ 130 mph, it didn't have a speedo, but the instructor said it's around there before you have to brake for a turn.

Been a passenger in a 911 Turbo around 280 km/h ~ 170 mph.

Fastest in a car on a straight road, about 135MPH.

Fastest in a car that was in the air, about 120MPH.

Fastest in a helicopter, with skids, sliding down the runway, about 160MPH. Lot's of sparks on that one. :p

Normal traffic flow on the highway is around 80~90 mph even though the speed limit is much much less.

The max I have pushed VW GLI is around ~110mph

Let's just say I had a little boo boo on the way to school when I was 15 (yes, I had a driver's license - learner's permit for between home and school) that can be described in the following equation:

Car + BrainDeadDriver + Speed + TrainTracks = CarInTheAir

I'm very lucky to have not killed myself and my three 3 best friends. :)

We landed and bounced into the air twice for a total of three landings. Thankfully I maintained control and we continued on after the third landing. That's when I looked down at the speedometer and saw the speed was just above 120MPH. What a stupid thing to do.

Hit a tad over 240 Km/h (150 mph) couple of days ago driving my BMW 123d Coupé, again in our beloved eastern neighbour's country : Germany (I really love that country) albeit it was during Friday afternoon rush hour, so couldn't floor it very long....

Car or airplane? :D

Car: 230 kph in Germany

Airplane: 105 knots (airspeed, unassisted by any tailwind), but close to about 180 knots (groundspeed) one night with an incredibly nice tailwind

Lawn mower: about 1 MPH?

123 mph on my 2002 Mercury Cougar in the middle of nowhere Missouri. It was during the day and I quickly chickened out. So, I slowed down to 90. I really would like to try and get it up to 150 mph before I get my next car. However, I wish there was some place I could try that safely.... i.e. without worrying about cops.

130-ish in my friend's father's Viper back in HS. He was out of town and didn't hide the keys very well so we took it down 101 at about 2am. Could have gone faster but I was scared enough to be breaking over 100 in a car that wasn't mine.

In my current car, I've rarely cracked 100, usually just to make it down to LA faster.

165 mph, it was in a safe location though.

The fastest I have ever went on a deserted highway was ~140. We used to race back from a town close to my hometown. (was pretty dumb).

80 mph :P Just once though. I was very late and had a paper due.

Yeah I basically put my car on cruise control at 68mph. Safer that way and I save on gas. I don't know anyone who's been caught going 68. It would be nice to go 75 so I can get to uni quickly but I don't really want to get a ticket. Too much hassle.

By the way, whats the fastest you can go before you get caught? Most highways have 65mph as the maximum here in California. Ofcourse, realistically, people seem to drive above 70-80. So I was just curious.

130mph in my uncles Aston Martin V8 Vantage at about 1pm. Took all of 4-5 seconds to get that!
120mph in my dads Saab 95.
about 130mph in a Porsche Cayman at Croft circuit in the UK
