LaCie d2 500GB Quadra

is the speed goin to be that much of a difference? I noticed the USB 2.0 is 8MB Cache while the d2 is 16MB cache..is this anythin to consider? I'm using the drives to for storage backup

I'm now leaning towards the Seagate FreeAgent Pro 500GB 🙂 I also have some Diamondmax 10 200GB HDs but 1 of them has windows XP on it.. could they still be used as an external? and what is a cheap enclosure i can get to work with the diamondmax 10?

Firewire is a much better choice.
I wouldn't personally buy anything from LaCie given their track record though.

I bought the Quadra recently and am happy with it. Currently using FW400 since that's all my iMac G5 can support, and it's perfectly fast and stable this way, but I'm sure FW800 on a newer computer would outstrip it handily.

My only quibble is that drive access can be a little noisy sometimes, but I usually tune it out so that's no deal breaker for me.

EDIT: I see that the first reviewer on Amazon says he had a similar noise problem but sent it in and got it fixed. May have to try that myself! Good thing you posted this. ^_^

from what i seen it gets better reviews than most drives.. what do u think about Lacies? and what would u suggest for a 500GB External?

I have the LaCie D2 500GB and i love it. best External HD i have ever had. Always go with FireWire. 🙂🙂🙂

I've had good experience with enclosures from Mapower. You might also want to check out IcyBox.

Just don't trust any drive older than 3 years with any important data.

I bought the lacie quadra and it was CRAZILY noisy. I loved the design and sturdiness, but it just was too noisy to use on my desk. I put it in a closet and it was too noisy even when I closed the door.I returned it and got a seagate freeagent pro and it's completely silent, fast and nicely designed. Almost cool-looking actually. And 5 years warranty!
