Its weird, I might have submitted this story after a person other then myself, but if I was the first to submit it... then why does the title get switched around...
Is there any purpose of that other then the link?

Windows -- Made By Microsoft
IE -- -- Made By Microsoft

If half of all crashes are due to "sloppy code" from third-parties...
That still means 1 company is responsible for the "majority" of Windows crashes.
Wonder who company that is ...

I haven't read the article, but I did see this story pasted on Slashdot. Apparently MS says that half of the problems are caused by third-party code. So of course Slashdot reversed it and posted the headline "half of Windows crashes are caused by MS code!" :D

If MS code is so good, then why does Internet Explorer 6 crash on Windows XP every 5 minutes?

Because the instant you went to a non-MS website, you introduced "foreign" code into the system. This HTML, which has not been signed with an MS digital certificate, could cause system instability, blah blah blah, etc etc etc. That's the sort of excuse MS will give you!

well chealion, that's because the bowser is their code, and of course their code is to blame for 50% of the crashes:p

I'm partly in agreement with Microsoft for the first time in my life.
I had an HP machine with a 1.8 GHz P4 and WinXP Pro. The machine started out with 256MB of RAM, but 2 512MB sticks were on order. The machine worked well, even with the parallel port/USB scanner. I was impressed after having the previous Win2000 machine crash regularly. A week later, the new RAM came and it was installed. It was removed about two weeks later when the machine had crashed over 30 times in one day. It had been crashing regularly. After that, the machine was stable again.
Yes, Internet Exploder and Office crashed but those things happen when you don't use the public (read safe) APIs that the rest of the world has to use.

you know what they say - a finger pointing at someone else means there's four more pointing back at yourself. Microsoft should use both hands when pointing here...
