Well, a large amount of those people bought it so that they could be the first ones with the "iPhone." That's what you get for buying it so early...

Who would vote for ringtones? Phones should ideally be on vibrate only, or at the most "ring" like a phone. Nothing is more annoying than someone's phone singing a stupid song and they grin like an idiot like they are Houdini because they can play a song on their phone, then proceed to listen to half the song before answering the phone.

i voted $200 price drop. taking that aside, i really feel strongly about the new nanos. they're not as bad-looking as i thought they'd be, and they offer such great bang for their buck.

Although I am EXTREMELY pissed about the price drop AND intend to write to sjobs@apple.com, I still voted for the price drop. Let's hope Santa give out lots of iPhones this holiday season. Then Jobs can lower the price another $200.

Definitely the iPod Touch - an iPod with WiFi (and Safari)!!!

Have to agree with the folks who say iPod Touch.....
As for those complaining about the price drop on the iPhone, that IS what you get for buying it so early. If you didn't see the price dropping as time went on, you should have.

FunFact: 11 people have voted that Starbucks notifying you of their currently-playing song, in a gradual rollout at limited locations, is today's best announcement.

I'd say the iPod touch - so many people have been waiting for the "phone-less iPhone" for a while now. That, and the $200 price drop on the iPhone.

Funner Fact: 8 people have voted that a slight change in the shuffle's hue is today's best announcement.

iPod touch is by far the most exciting announcement of the day. Still, I'll be getting a "classic" next. I need the tactile feedback for skipping to the "next" song while driving!
That is, unless I find a good car control for the touch ... I really like the touch interface everywhere else!

The "best" iPod should be larger, not smaller than the previous one. I mean capacity here. If the touch had the 160gig option I'd be all over it.

I voted for the Classic. Every rumor mill out there wanted flash only pods, and were frothing at the mouth for a video/touch ipod. Those of us who wanted music only were stomped on in the rumor mill.
By keeping the 'classic', and increasing capacity, they gave a nod to us who are still more interested in music than video. Steve still cares about we music folks, so I was happy "we" still got a high capacity music ipod.

Agreed. iPod Touch is really a revolution in iPods, while everything else is just gravy (or a slap in the face, depending in where you stand).

I voted Classic. The new Nano looks ugly to me, but I have to see it "in real life". The Touch is nice, but at that capacity it is useless. The $200 price drop is VERY nice, but way to p*** off your beta testers!

without a doubt the iphone price drop. I don't NEED a new ipod, just a new phone.

Man I used to go to Starbucks for coffee, now I will go to see what they are playing over their sound system.... NOT!! What a silly idea

Sorry, had to vote for the Classic since the Touch is, as far as I'm concerned, crippled having only 16gb of storage space.

It may seem silly, but I bet when it's rolled out Star$$ and :apple: sell a ton of songs that way! Apple often does things that may seem silly (Remember the original shuffle? Thousands of "What, no screen?" posts?) but somehow, at least when it comes to the iPod, everything Apple touches is golden.
I think there was a lot here for a variety of audiences, definitely one of the better Apple announcements. 160 gigs is amazing. The Touch is amazing. The price drop of the iPhone is amazing (if you don't have one yet). The nano is adorable.

Except for the Apple Hi-Fi, which has apparently been discontinued. ;-)

Actually, every time I watch TV and an ad comes on, I always wonder why they're not putting a little text at the bottom left saying what song/artist is used in the ad (if applicable of course).
You end up hunting forums and stuff with search strings like "product tv ad song" or something, it's annoying that they don't even promote their stuff properly!
As an example, I had to hunt forums for a few hours before discovering the tune used in that "jet transforming into a SUV" ad, if you remember it. I'm not a music fan as such, so I had no idea what song or even what group it was.
As for Starbucks, well, there's no chance to have one of those where I live (around 10K-15K residents) but it's a nice thing to have, I hope the radio stations and the TV ads pick up on that idea.

Of course, the obvious choice would be to vote for iPod touch, but it's not a vote of 'what do you want', but 'best announcement', and I think the best one was the one no one rumoured, nobody knew about apperently, and surprised me the most: Starbucks. But just like the iPhone, it's useless for me, I am from the Netherlands, no starbucks anywhere near me.

I voted for price drop on the iPhone because that is probably the first thing that I'll be taking advantage of. The touch is a great product, but I would happily pay for a hd based version. When it comes to an iPod, I only see the need for two purposes:
1) for running (I still use my 6GB mini) and
2) take all my music with me. I think the touch is outstanding, but I'll pass it up to get the 160GB classic so I can just sync my library without giving it any thought and then walk out the door. Of course, that initial sync over USB-2 is going to suck (compared to the FireWire of my 4G photo...).

...AND BEING THE GINNY PIGS....
GINNY PIGS? Are they pigs that like gin or something?
I think the Touch is a great devive. It's what was hoped for and more. My current iPod is a 20GB 3rd Gen, so can't see why the touch wouldn't suite me just fine.

You're right! Except that the price drop was amazing, period. Also, I was extremely startled by the $100 store credit for early adopters. I'm not sure it was a great idea but they must have weighed the pros and cons. Anyway it will drop the pricetag on a "phat" nano for me, probably, or maybe stick the new Logic Studio into super-bargain category.
I suppose Apple will keep the iPhone price drop from becoming some kind of precedent simply by not responding to silly (or malevolent) "outrage" over future price drops on laptops and discontinuation of models. Early adopters have to get over it or else get over the idea of being an early adopter. There's a price for being in that club and the dues are never really paid up for long. Period!
Through this rollout across the iPod lines, it's clear that Apple definitely understands the variety of our personal preferences for portable audio and video. I can't decide what to save up for first. The storage on the larger classic is very tempting. I love those new nanos, but the shuffles are sweet, too, like pressed flowers. I keep multiple Shuffles so I can load them with different collections -- all jazz or all Latin, mixed playlists of old favorites... But I want a phat nano to hold my burgeoning collection of Apple ad videos! Or maybe a green nano for that, and a red one for current episodes of video podcasts.
My Chinese takeout shop is going to think I switched to sushi, or died...
