I'm liking that iPod Touch and Nano. :D

The iPod Touch is a seriously sexy device. I think Apple started up a think tank recently under the code name "Take All of Iscariot's Money". I'll be putting in some overtime this month looks like...

The 1st generation Nano was very attractive, but each generation since has gotten progressively uglier. I predict that within the next couple of iterations, you'll be able to buy the Nano complete with "brown paper sack"-style cases.

Great post Iscariot!

I still like the fact it's tiny video playing Nano though. The looks, meh.

Well, there goes my need for an iPhone considering the new iPod will be WiFi enabled and contain the Safari browser.

Yes the iPod touch does look good @ 299 and no monthly charges it's looking even better.

I just wish Apple didn't use that horrible streaky back of the iPod touch (shoulda used the one on the iPhone) but other than that I love it!

But with such limited capacity, my dreams were crushed! :(

I just saw them too, right before closing time down here in Australia.

I totally agree, the Nano is awesome. So tiny and light, and the fact it plays video is brilliant. Unfortunately, I think the Nano and the Video share the same basic components, the coverflow has a low framerate (exactly the same on both, i'd say ~5-7 fps, choppy, and pixelated too). I'm not complaining, but coverflow on the Classic and Nano is almost useless.

+1 for video on the nano.

I won't buy an iPod until it can hold all the music in the world at CD quality. Even then, I'd still consider a Zune.

Is that all you want?

I want mine to hold unreleased music as well, at lossless, oh, and flash based for under $300.

Too much to ask? I don't think so...

I won't buy a CD player unless it holds every single one of my CD's. And I want it to be portable and smaller than a CD.

Seriously, to people who complain, do you lug around your CD collection everywhere you go? You can load up 4gb of music (which is a lot), make a few playlists, and sync new ones every week. My music collection is over 200gb..

Your post makes it sound like the Zune can hold all the music in the world.

To me, the best choice appears to be the red iPod nano, or the black iPod Classic.

They look great.

No, I'm not very keen on the iPod "touch" idea. But I've never seen such devices, since I live in France.

in my little and humble opinion-

I ruddy hate the look of the Nano and Classic. I love the sound of the Touch, but 16gb? Thou hast forsaken me. That wouldn't even hold my music collection, let alone TV and film.

Sticking with my 30GB iPod.

Does me fine, plays my music and carries most of my tunes - could do with a bigger hard drive but then again a fair bit of my music is crap.

If I had the cash to splash, I'd get the iPod touch because it is awesome - but then again for an extra hundred bucks I could get an iPhone when it eventually hits Europe.

Tough calls.

Can anyone confirm if the new iPods such as the classic and the new nano have their screens covered by glass? The new metal body wont do all that much if the screen still scratches like a "classic" iPod..

I haven't gotten to see any of these in person yet, but the front surface finishes look quite a bit different from the previous Nano's painted / anodized metal. Much more matted / coarse. I especially noted it in some comparison photos with the 2G and 3G Nanos that someone linked in another thread. I think it looks good actually...

It's "to", not 2. And you wont be seeing a HD in the touch

The new Creative Zen Vision is rumoured to be outputing 720p to its screen/external connections.

The iPod Touch will eventually get that I'd assume, if they continue making the iPod Touch over the next year.

I can't believe there has been no talk about the new Ipod Classic. 80 and 160 gig models.... thats huge! real firepower and a new interface. i am impressed by that and plan on buying one.

I don't see why people are complaining about the complainers on this one. The iPod Touch is their flagship product, and holds 16gb of music. I guess you could complain that 24 or 32gb of flash memory would cut in to their profit margins slightly, or that putting in a hard drive would make it thicker, but the fact remains, 16gb for a device primarly designed to display movies and 16:10 aspect TV is pretty damned small. And keep in mind it's supposed to replace your ipod as a music player, not supliment it, so your music collection has to fit on there.

Would a 30gb iPod Touch that's the thickness of a 5G iPod have been so terrible? We're definately approaching the point of "too thin". I would argue that the 1st gen nanos were too thin for adults, I had two friends break theirs by simply sitting with them in their front pocket. Most everyone I know owns at least one iPod, none have ever had a drive failure, so I don't really see the point of solid state memory on such a high end product, especially when it's a cripiling feature that adds no functionality.

Agreed. Form seemingly continues to trump function in Cupertino, to our loss as consumers. If anything, we should be given a choice: iPod Touch with a flash drive and an HDD-based iPod Touch. My guess is that the HDD version would outsell its flash-based counterpart in multiples.

The only problem I've experienced with an iPod HDD is user error. I dropped it on a ceramic tile floor. :(

Keep in mind that both a hard drive and touchscreen would eat away at the battery life... though maybe putting in slightly larger battery to make up for it.

Maybe the 80Gig iPod Touch with the thickness of the 60Gig 5G model would do... the industry, though, wants to go towards flash memory...

I'm looking forward to maybe getting one sometime around black (what is it, Monday? Thursday? Friday?) if they have a sale on. We'll see...
