getting footage off a dv cam thats prerecorded

i have a samsung minidv cam and i can record live movie from the camera
but i want to be able to record on my dvcam when its not attached to my mac
and still be able to put that in my movie.

To transfer your movie from the camera to your mac you will need a to open an editing program (like iMovie), hook camera to computer with a firewire and rewind the tape to the beginning.
Then you can control the camera from your editing program and press "capture" whenever you want to copy something from tape to computer.
