Is there a way to get the DRM off of an iTunes m4v file?

I just want to reencode it to be a bit smaller and lesser quality.

Preferably a mac only solution but i'm flexible.

There's a piece of Windows software that rhymes with loon fight that you shouldn't be asking about here. :p I've never seen it in action though...

You could also just use that MiniDV camcorder in your sig presuming it does analog to digital passthrough. Obviously you don't care about the video quality only the file size.

what are you suggesting? how would i get the iTunes video onto a MiniDV tape?

the way i'm understanding you is to record the m4v video onto a tape then recapture it by whatever means i feel like (ie Final Cut)

Many miniDV camcorders will act as an analog <-> DV bridge (the passthrough feature) so you don't need to actually put anything on tape, just play the protected video back as if to a TV (using the composite/S-video adapter for your Mac or iPod) and connect that to your camcorder. Then connect the camcorder to the Mac via firewire.

Start capturing with iMovie and then start playback from the iPod/Mac. Trim, edit, compress to your heart's content.

maybe i can play it full screen and do a screen capture.

Exactly what "loon fight" (as mentioned above) does.
