Well i personally love the ipod touch, for me the 16GB will be great!

However what apple really missed the boat on was bluetooth! This is very nearly a deal breaker for me!!!! i want to be able to connect it to my pda and surf for the number one reason!!!! also sending pics to it would be another. not to mention sending pics to my friends phones pdas or tipod etc!!

STEVE!!! before you start making them throw in a blue tooth chip!!! FOR THE LOVE OF GOD !!! haha

Hey and a nice little camera would have been sweet too!!!

Perhaps what a guy should do is grab an iphone and do what he needs to do to use it as an ipod! maybe they will release 16GB iphones soon! :-)

lol steve!! are you encouraging us to make your product do what we want!!

The iPhone doesn't do any of those things with bluetooth, so why would the iPod Touch do so? And whats with the "connecting to a PDA and surf" comment as you can surf with safari right from the iPod, which is better then AT LEAST most PDA browsers out there?

Out...

And why shouldn't they do those things? why can't you trade files via blue tooth! I would like to be able to, it is totally possible too, they just have to make the software for it! so what if its kind of slow! I can have a few drinks and transfer files at the same time ....

as for surfing with bluetooth, i am on a cdma network, i have a data plan, i can surf with my laptop, but this would be far easier to carry and tether to my smartphone. Also i agree pda browsers are the shiittttes !!!! thats more than obvious - you think it could be the reason for the interest in the safari browser on a mobile device? i know thats why i am interested !!!! otherwise i would go with a nano or the classic ......

Shame no bluetooth stereo headphone or possibility of tethering to a HSDPA 3G phone. That would make the Touch a killer device, esp. with Mail.app on it.

x2... I'm waiting for the revision in the hopes BT is added. Lack of BT (w/ A2DP) is lame... Plus maybe by then a 32GB model will be available...

There's a bluetooth icon in the top right corner of one the official photos of the iPod Touch.

Next to the battery icon on the landscape one on the right in the Applestore where the guy is upside down on the bike.

well look at that !!!!!!! I wonder why they haven't advertised it... everyone is under the impression that it doesnt have it which is surprising! but a picture from apple showing it has it is proof enough for me!!

I guess it's the same OS as the iPhone, so the OS is bluetooth capable, even if the iPod may not be bluetooth-ready. Maybe the RevB version.

Bluetooth would enable a small/compact wireless external keyboard - which would be eerily reminicscent of the Newton's compact (wired) external keyboard a decade ago.

This thing is a reborn Newton, still on its baby legs. Why don't they just admit it! ;)

There is no bluetooth at this stage on it.

They latter removed the bluetooth icon in those photos.

It looks highly unlikely. However we won't know for sure until someone takes one apart after they're released.

I just looked the pictures are still there in the store, the ones on the right hand side there is a vetical and horizontal touch standing there!!!!

I myself cant imagine why they wouldn't put BT in it!!! oh well i ordered one and if it doesnt have BT like the picture shows it will be right back in the box and send it straight back to steve!!!!! lol

(maybe i am just dreaming that i will actually come with BT and that i will be able to keep it!!! )

I'd have to go with a mistake Apple-side. If the touch had A2DP Bluetooth, His Jobs-ness would've openly lauded it at the keynote.

As much as I'd love BT to be on there, I think you're right.

According to Engadget (http://www.engadget.com/2007/09/06/does-apples-ipod-touch-have-bluetooth/), theres a bluetooth chip in there, its just not active at the moment.

If BT is really there this just says to me that Apple really really don't want you to tether this to a phone with a decent data connection. That would put a big dent in iPhone sales for one as people buy Touches. Also encourages people to buy phones with 3.5G tech (HSDPA etc), ie. not the ones they sell.

That is EXACTLY what I would like to do! It would be great to tether the iPod touch to my 3G phone that has unlimited data.

According to an update on crunchgear.com, wifi and bluetooth are both on the same chip. So if one's there, so is the other. Just that that only the wifi is activated and FCC approved.

Perhaps a future firmware update for sale on the applestore like they did to enable 802.11n on Macbooks. Or better yet, a free update.

Please make this true. A BT Touch + HSDPA cameraphone is the ultimate setup imo :). Even if BT is enabled Apple would try to stop that surely?

Edit:I don't believe that BT and wifi are on the same chip:

If it is there though it odesn't need specific FCC approval before switch on:

http://www.csr.com/pr/pr061.htm

AND the US amazon.com site also sports those pics with the BT icon next to the battery icon. The plot thickens.

Are those the innards of an iPhone, emotion? Good research. If the iPod Touch uses the same, then the update on crunchgear.com is inaccurate then. And crunchgear appears to be wrong about FCC approval as well, then.

If they are different chips and there's no BT chip in the iPod, then definitely no BT at all until a full revB version with a new logic board.

So it's a matter of what are the chances the chip is there, or space has been left on the board for it? I'm thinking Apple would have looked into expansion enough to see BT as a future option, without having to redesign the whole logic board? Then again, maybe not...

It's from Arstechnica.com.

It always baffles me how Apple doesn't seem to be that into BT. I mean those remotes that come with every machine (well my laptop has one) should be a bluetooth device really.

So, I also find it odd that the Touch doesn't have it mentioned. Unless they're thinking that that feature will mean everyone who will have to wait until December for an iPhone (UK) will just go out and buy a N95 and tether a Touch to it.

When the iPhone comes out then BT might be enabled if it's there (or maybe they'll sort A2DP support in OSX, finally, when Leopard comes out and give to the Touch and iPhone in an update?)?

We need to wait until 24.9.07 for Arstechnica's disection.
