It's interesting how Jews became famous for banking... you see, way back when, the church wouldn't allow Christians to charge one another interest, even for business purposes (something about some stuff Jesus said... :rolleyes: ). Naturally, if you can't charge interest, there's no reason for a Christian to become a banker... Well here come all these Jews who ARE allowed to charge interest, and all of a sudden every Jew wanted to get in on this. Of course, that contributed to Christian resentment of Jews, which eventually led to the Holocaust.

Sorry for the off-topic post, but I thought it was interesting. I feel all dirty, like Jan Jansen now.

according to my european history professor, the Church did not recognize banking as a career and anyone that handled money was often looked down upon because they weren't doing "real" work like paining, fishing or building. I told my dad that story once and he didn't believe it.
