View Full Version : Power Outages in New England

Well, since this is the biggest story of today and I didn't see it posted on here, I decided I would start a thread.

The largest power outages in history ravaged the Northeastern United States and Canada today. Parts of New York, Michigan, Ohio, New Jersey, Massachusetts, and Ontario suffered the power loss that began at approximately 4 PM today. While some areas are now recovering power, many are still in the dark. There has been a great deal of speculation as to the cause of this massive blackout of the Niagara-Mohawk power grid, from damage by lightning of a Canadian power plant to a fire at a Con Edison plant in New York. Here is a link to a CNN story.Power Outage (http://www.cnn.com/2003/US/08/14/power.outage/index.html)

What does this say about our power grid? Perhaps it would be easily susceptible to mishaps of a more purposeful kind...
