iPod question about replacement earbuds by apple (free under warranty)

has anyone requested replacement earbuds from apple recently? I was wondering if the replacement earbuds are the new ones that supposedly fit better. I have a 5th generation iPod.

if the earbuds aren't the new ones, then I probably won't even bother getting replacements from apple.
