Convert avi to Mpeg-4: Please Help! - PS3 storage

I am trying to download my avi files from my laptop to my PS3.
So, a few questions:

1 - what is the best avi to Mpeg-4 peice of software for mac that is hopefully free?

2 - after I convert to Mpeg, how to I then transfer it into my PS3 (and m exbox 360)?


Sorry if this is a repeat but I ran a search and didn't come up with any direct answers to this question.

You might also want to check out MPEG Streamclip (http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/24055). It's free and allows you to convert most types of video files.

Hey. thanks for the replies.

However, Streamclip is not recognizing avi as a video file so I'm still at a standstill.

Also, what would be the process to get the files once they are converted onto my PS3, XBOX 360?
