And still not possible to download :) His server is under a massive DoS - wonder why.. Anyone up for playing the mirror game? (I would if I could, but can't because I have to have something to mirror)

Seeing as people are smarter than me (surprise!) and uploads to rapidshare and alike, there's no reason I donate BW for it :)

Just set up a torrent and that should solve the DoS problems. Leverage the network not clog it.

For anyone who is wanting to unlock an iPhone on a mac, I ran into a guide that may help (since I do not have a iPhone, I cannot test it):

Originally found here (Hackint0sh forums are slow, so I'll repost it here as well):
http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=5883

A very easy tutorial of Dev Team Unlock for Mac

I will post a very easy tutorial of Dev Team Unlock for Mac

-First you will need to install the app from nullriver, once you have it on the iphone open it and install things in this order:
-Community Sources
-BSD Subsystem
-OpenSSH
-Open Terminal

Link for the iUnlock files (iUnlock , nor and ICE03.14.08_G.fls):
http://rapidshare.com/files/55046131/iunlock-Contains-Files.rar
Link to get bbupdater, inside that pack you only need to use bbupdater:
http://rapidshare.com/files/51207171/Geohack.rar
Link for App installer:
http://iphone.nullriver.com/beta/

Then you need to install FUGU on your Mac once you have it go back to the iphone, se the iPhone for having a Static IP adress and set it so it will never get lock! now you are ready to open FUGU at your Mac, im going to post the steps once FUGU is open on your Mac:
-type the iPhone IP adress you set on it earlier
-it will ask you for the password of the iPhone, the password is "dottie"
-now you are inside the iphone system go to "usr" folder of the iphone
-create a new folder on the iphone called "local, open it and create inside it a new folder called "etc"
- go back to usr folder on the iphone and now get into the "bin" folder located inside "usr" folder, here you have to upload three files, "iunlock", "ICE03.14.08_G.fls" and "nor"
-now get back to the intiall folder inside your iPhone and get into your "bin" folder (not the one inside usr folder), here you have to upload the bbupdater
-now get back to the initiall folder of the iPhone and get into your "system" folder, once inside it open the "library" folder and then open the "launch deamons" folder here you will see this file "com.apple.CommCenter.plist" copy that file yo your computer and then erased it from the iphone.
-Now you have to shutdown your iphone, and then restart it
-Once the iPhone is on and connected to the Wifi open the terminal in your Mac and type this to get into the iPhone "ssh -l root here you wright your ip adress" then enter/return
-now it will ask you the password type "dottie" enter/return
- once inside the iphone type "cd /usr/bin" enter/return
-"minicom -s" enter/return
- Select "Serial port setup" (with your down arrow key) then press enter/return.
-At the next screen, type: A
-Your cursor will now be at the "Serial Device" line. Type: /dev/tty.baseband Then press enter/return.
-Press the escape key. Select "Save setup as dfl" and press enter/return. You will get a pop up message saying "Configuration Saved".
-Select "Exit". Then press enter/return. then close that terminal window
-Open a new terminal window and type "cd /usr/bin" enter/return
- type "iUnlock ICE03.14.08_G.fls nor" enter/return, the iphone should take like 20 minutes to get this process done
-once its finished type "bbupdater -v" enter/return
-now type "minicom" enter/return
-type "AT" enter/returnyou should get OK for response
-type AT+CLCK="PN",0,"00000000" enter/return you should get OK for response
-type AT+CLCK="PN",2 enter/return you should get this for response "+CLCK: 0
OK", if this is the case your iPhone is unlocked
-now open again the FUGU on your mac log into your iphone the same way you did it before
-go to "system", "library", "launch deamons" and inside that folder put back the "com.apple.CommCenter.plist" you copied before to your mac now closed fugu, shutdown your iphone, put inside it any sim card you want , then turn it on and i should work!

IMPORTANT:!!!
guys if you get this message from FUGU "WARNING: REMOTE HOST IDENTIFICATION HAS CHANGED"! guys if you get this error an the beggining (during the first time you try to connect to your iphone) the solution is simple just go back to the iphone and type on it a different Static IP then go back to FUGU type the new IP adress and that should work!
thats all! is not that hard if you follow step by step! inclusively you could copy the commands i have written ! remember enter/return means type that key of your keyboard after typing what is beetwen the ""

good luck and hope this helps you!

THANKS TO ALL THE DEV TEAM FOR THEIR GREAT JOB AND EFFORT! I WOULD LIKE TO GIVE SPECIAL THANKS TO SAM HE HAS BEEN HELPING ME WITH SOME ISSUES I HAD ON MY IPHONE HE IS SUCH A GREAT GUY!

Wooooohoooo! Confirmed on Rogers Wireless in Vancouver, Canada. :)

SMS text and phone fully functional.

Methods: http://iphone.unlock.no/ and http://modmyiphone.com/wiki/index.ph...iPhone_iUnlock
These two tutorials seem to be the easiest to follow, but they have different approaches with minicom. http://iphone.unlock.no/ is more elegant, but the modmyiphone site has better laid out instructions.

Tips: Make sure to read the instructions very carefully with the SIM removed until the very end. Also, DO NOT sync without a SIM card inserted after the hack is completed. iTunes will prompt you to sign up with AT&T again and you will have to start over.

Big thanks to all the hard working developers!

I've never thought about using a crack for anything. games console, OS, phones etc. It seems a bit too much trouble.

But seriously, if I don't hear any news on a UK release soon I think I'll give it a try. I know I know Steve said its coming next quarter blah blah. But please, throw us a bone.

Since january I have patiently waited with my nokia n80, unable to check email because of some seemingly insolvable bug, charging every 8 hours. waiting, waiting. Both myself and my business need this phone.

sorry rant over. Just making the point that without information from Apple soon, me - and I guess a lot of other people - will be considering this crack.

I feel the exact same way bud!

Maybe we need to have a stickie or something in the OP saying where this leaves us. That would certainly help prevent some people from asking the same questions over and over again.

What we know (at least what I got from the previous 11 pages):

- You can pretend to activate your iPhone and use it like an iPod touch with extra features.
- You can (after a normal or pretend activation) unlock your iPhone and use it with apparently a good deal of non-ATT GSM carriers.
- There is a GUI unlock program.
- After a successful unlock, you cannot use visual voicemail on any network other than ATT.
- After a successful unlock, you can make and receive calls, use the internet, and use the other programs on the iPhone.
- After a successful unlock, you need to change some preferences to use the T-Mobile EDGE network, but at least one user has claimed success.

What we are not necessarily sure of:

- Will this functionality become disabled with a future software update? No one knows at this point.
- What happens for users who do not currently have a data plan? Will the phone avoid getting online other than through hotspots if you don't change the preferences?
- If this unlock works on absolutely every GSM carrier.
- Which data plan you should add to your current service.

What am I missing? Where can we put this information to make it easy for the most people to see?

Doesn't seem strange to me. I have exactly the same question. I don't want to give up my rate plan, but because it's a plan that dates back to the original AT&T wireless, if I change anything (new hardware, new phone number, etc.), then I have to change to a contemporary rate plan. So, my only option is to use unlocked phones if I want a new phone.

Therefore, I want to know the same thing you do. Has anyone tried using an unlocked iPhone on a non-iPhone AT&T plan yet? Enquiring minds want to know!

If you are already with AT&T and have an old plan you do not have to lose it when you activate a new iPhone, all you have to do is add the iPhone data plan to your exsisting plan. I know this because this is what I did. I was able to keep all my roll-over minutes and my 3 year old plan as well.

You people are so funny...

YOu think only AT&T is getting scrwed and Apple could care less that the iPhones are getting unlocked. .. ummmm. NO, Apple does care BIG TIME!

Apple is reproted to get roughly $10/mo from ATT per service plan that uses the iPhones. That Means, if there are over 1million hack phones, they would be loosing roghly 120million a year.

So yes, Apple would get affected by using another carrier since they get no profit sharing with ATT on that.

No no no...

There are certain types of people that will use this hack:

1) People who don't use AT&T and are unwilling to switch
2) People who use AT&T who don't want to pay outrageous amounts for a data plan.

In case #1, the unlock is allowing Apple to sell more phones at $400 a crack to people WHO WOULD NOT HAVE OTHERWISE BOUGHT AN iPHONE. So if Apple moves a million phones to TMo or Sprint or whoever, that an EXTRA $400M.

In case #2, again, Apple will make the $400 hardware sale. If they do lose out on an AT&T service plan, it's only $240 per plan over the course of two years. Again, they come out ahead because they were able to sell the phone to someone who would not have otherwise purchased the phone.

Apple is not losing much money on the unlock, if any at all. The only body truly getting the shaft is AT&T.

BTW, I fall into category #2. The price drop made the iPhone very alluring... but the unlock has made the sell. I will now buy an iPhone. It's just a matter of "when."

I've just successfully unlocked using the iUnlock GUI at:-

http://www.freeiphoneunlock.com/unlock/

It works fine, but whenever I restart my iPhone it seems to lose it's unlock status and says Incorrect SIM.

I removed the Unlock program straight after by SFTP because obviously I didn't need it anymore - do I have to keep it in order for it to work?!

Wish I'd seen the GUI first!

Been on with this since 12pm today, using 3 different methods/instructions and kept coming across different problems in each (minicom input problems, SSH problems).

This seems to work a treat!

Have you tried a restart? Any "activation" or "wrong SIM" errors?

So, I can confirm the non-GUI process worked for me last night (tested it this morning with a co-worker's T-Mobile SIM, received a call just fine, and he placed a call as well). After some initial confusion and problems, I used a kind of combination of the unlock.iphone.no process and the hackint0sh process (since I really didn't want to have to BootCamp to do it). Basically:

Turned off the iTunes Helper in Activity Monitor.
Restored the iPhone using iTunes (7.4), to firmware 1.0.2.
Quit iTunes before the iPhone booted.
Removed my at&t SIM.
Opened iTunes to pair (without activating) so I could use iNdependence 1.2 and other tools (it bitches if you haven't paired it at least once, but I didn't want to activate it through iTunes). Quit iTunes. Replaced SIM.
Activated, jailbreaked, and installed SSH in iNdependence.
Removed SIM again.
Set up WiFi on the iPhone (turned off auto-lock).
Installed Installer.app to the iPhone using the AppTapp installer.
Used Installer.app to install the Community Sources and BSD Subsystem.
Used SFTP in Transmit to transfer over the iUnlock components as well as add the /usr/local/etc/ directory and minicom config file (included in the 7-file iUnlock pack from iphone.unlock.no).
Used Terminal to do the rest of the unlock guide (turning off CommCenter, running iUnlock and then the minicom commands, turning CommCenter back on)
Also did the YouTube fix step (http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=5582) (used Transmit to delete the files in the activation_records folder, and upload the patched files and the hacked lockdownd to the noted locations).

I had a couple sync problems with iTunes after this process last night (syncs would randomly die) but I believe this was because the phone was still in jailbreak mode from iNdependence. When I put it back in jail it seemed to behave and synced fine. With the YouTube fix, YouTube was perfectly functional.

When I put in his SIM this morning, the phone powered up and was on T-Mobile with no activation/fiddling necessary beyond that, it just worked. Didn't try any data stuff, since I don't seem to have the EDGE Network tab in my General > Network settings (where DO you get that?) and I wasn't sure how much in the way of charges it'd rack up on his T-Mobile account. Any guidance on the data stuff?

I bought an unlocked phone from eBay. Second, when I moved to a different state: new phone number? have to change plans. I kept my old phone number. Finally, when the iPhone came out: buy an iPhone? have to change plans.

So, I don't know how you got to keep your old plan, but I've been told definitively that I cannot.

Well, if this is possible due to a bug on the iPhone, I am sure AT&T is going to force Apple to eliminate the bug. This may happen a few times and after that is going to be REAL hard to continue the hacking to unlock. It is a matter of time IMHO.

I wonder what the lawyers at AT&T and Apple are doing about this.
This is a big deal,

I know several people who have done this as well as changed numbers in other states and never had to get a new plan. Things may have changed but now you can do all of this without changing your plan. I promise it's true, if you don't believe me call AT&T yourself and you will see. Oh and part of the activation process on iTunes asks you if you want to keep your old plan or start a new plan. All I had to do was add the $20 a month iPhone media to my old plan.

I know this may seem a strange question, but I'm already an AT&T customer for many years, with a phone that just died, no data plan, and several discounts I don't want to use.

Can I unlock the iPhone and use my AT&T sim card, or does it seem like AT&T are at blocking that ? They must have some info on which device a caller is using. (but I may not understand GSM)

all you have to do is activate it using a program. there are many out there but I recommend independence (google iactivator). after your phone is activated, just pop in your AT&T sim and you're ready to go.

It is plain as day when you activate using iTunes. It is one of the choices on the screen. I find it amusing how many people try to justify doing this with claims that it is not illegal. Any reverse engineered software modification is very illegal. You are absolutely incorrect. The DMCA (Digital Millenium Copyright Act) makes it illegal to bypass a copy control mechanism. Due to the ways that telephone companies were abusing this act to lock in customers, congress specifically made an exemption to this law which allows unlocking of cellphones. It is NOT ILLEGAL.

EDGE, wifi, dialing in and out, texting all work. Now its time to make Youtube work.
Does Youtube not work? It just uses any data connection, so it should work on any network, regardless of Wifi or EDGE. I noticed that it scales the videos down to a low-bandwidth version if you are on EDGE, probably to avoid stuttering during playback.

What about YouTube? how do I make YouTube work on my T-Mobile EDGE network?

Thanks

I've just successfully unlocked using the iUnlock GUI at:-

http://www.freeiphoneunlock.com/unlock/

It works fine, but whenever I restart my iPhone it seems to lose it's unlock status and says Incorrect SIM.

I removed the Unlock program straight after by SFTP because obviously I didn't need it anymore - do I have to keep it in order for it to work?!

what is "sftp"?

Didn't make me and my plan is a 4 year old family plan.

Question:

Is "Activating" the iPone a prerequesit for getting any of the further "unlocking" (i.e. so the phone can be used with another carrier) done?

I ask for a somewhat unrelated purpose: I am seriously considering purchasing the iPhone to use primarily in place of an iPod touch for the next 10 months until my VZW contract is up. The only reason I hesitate is because I'm worried that further firmware/itunes updates will leave me without a way to "Activate" the iPhone. Then I'll have an iNothingButAnUnusable400DollarPaperWeight.

Anyway, I figure if the first step in any unlocking/etc process is to activate the phone (which is all I need), then the moding/hacker community will always have significant interest in the activation process. And I'll rest a little easier knowing that activation process won't get thrown away in the future leaving me out in the cold.

The other poster is right. All you have to do is add the data plan to your existing plan. This is what I did. It isn't hidden, or a back door, or anything like that. It is plain as day when you activate using iTunes. It is one of the choices on the screen. Unless this screen is built dynamically and for some reason you personally are being excluded, I can't imagine you not having this option as well. What happened when you tried to activate your iPhone with iTunes? Did you not get this option?

I have not purchased an iPhone because when I asked the sales rep at the AT&T store I was told that I would have to move to a contemporary plan. I was told that this is because I have an AT&T plan that was issued before Cingular bought AT&T wireless (which later merged with the rest of AT&T and became AT&T again). I have been told this ever since AT&T wireless became Cingular. And the change back to AT&T has had no effect on what I've been told. (Believe me, I've asked several times to several different people. Current AT&T locked phones won't recognize my SIM.)

Awesome! Time to get an iPhone! Thanks for posting up! :D

Does Youtube not work? It just uses any data connection, so it should work on any network, regardless of Wifi or EDGE. I noticed that it scales the videos down to a low-bandwidth version if you are on EDGE, probably to avoid stuttering during playback.

It does not work without hacking it to make it work. You can access youtube.com through edge or wi-fi, but it will not play videos because it requires some sort of macromedia flash player. Well, thats what I heard at least..

There is a thread on hackint0sh that has the steps and procedures to make youtube work. Am going to do it later this evening when I get off of work.

Ok, serious question here. . .if I want an IPhone and want to us it as such, what are the benefits of unlocking for those in the US? I understand outside the US, but inside? You still need a carrier and a voice/data plan. . .in my own situation, my wife wants one and has a 49 voice plan via tmobile. . .to use the tmobile sim she would need to add a 20 data plan for 69. Similar to the ATT plans.

What am I missing.

1. You're under contract to T-Mobile

2. You'd like to use AT&T, but not be locked into a 2 year contract

3. You'd like an iPod Touch, but with bluetooth and a digital camera

4. You don't have a contract with anyone, want an iPhone and HATE AT&T (which seems to be pretty common on these forums...)

Yes, youtube does work. You have to activate iit though using some scripts. If you go over to the hackint0sh forums, there is thread called something along the lines of youtube two step activation for mac os x. Just follow the easy steps. I am on my iphone so i can't link for you.

Just to clarify... did you mean you had NO SIM card inserted in the iPhone during the entire process of bypass activation as well as unlocking, right? And then you inserted the Ropgers SIM in the iPhone for syncing with iTunes?

I am going to buy one, unlock and use it on Rogers as well.

I had that problem when I used OpenSSH as well, which prompted me to re-start and use the dropbear SSH client that iNdependence 1.2 installs. You can see the rough process I used here on page 12 of this thread (http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=4170220&postcount=282). This includes a link to the YouTube fix thread on Hackint0sh.

You need to RETURN your phone to jail before using AppTapp. The only thing to to now probably is launch iTunes, do a full restore and start again.

Once the restore is complete, make installing AppTapp the first thing you do (before jailbreaking and before activating).

so i go to the mac version on trying to unlock the iphone...

http://modmyiphone.com/wiki/index.php/Getting_Started_iPhone_Modding_OS_X
step 5
iNdependence will ask you where you downloaded the firmware file I linked to in the beginning of this tutorial. Navigate to that folder (just the one called iPhone1,1_1, not the one called firmware inside it) and hit Open.

wtf? this is the 91mb file right? i can't find the file in the screenshot. iphone1,1_1

I've been trying to install Jailbreak. But i can't. When I try to perform Jailbreak using the independence program, i'm not able to locate the unzipped firmware files to make it work. Are the files hidden somewhere or something? Also the icon for iPhone1,1_1 as mentioned here http://modmyiphone.com/wiki/index.ph...e_Modding_OS_X is different. Mine is not like the one pictured.

Can anyone help? Thanks.

Yes, I have iTunes 7.4.1 ,and the iPhone 1.0.2 firmware installed.

I'm in the same FRICKEN boat

I don't get it. I thought the courts made it legal for phones to be unlocked. Infact I thought there is a new law that requires cellular companies to unlock the phone so you can use it on another carrier. Am I mistaken?

I'm pretty sure the easiest way to prepare for the unlock is to install App Tapp and use that to install BSD Subsystem and OpenSSH. No Jailbreak required. Then I just followed the instructions here (http://modmyiphone.com/wiki/index.php/How_to_software_unlock_iPhone_iUnlock) from step two onwards. The only problem was the linked zip file didn't contain bbupdate or linkdownd files, so I had to get them from somewhere else. Other than, nice and easy.

yeah, you have to rename that iPhone 1,1_1xxxx to .zip

then double click it to extract contents

then point the jailbreak to that folder

if you get an error, close independence, reopen and try again

this really is a pain in the ass and i am hoping i can get it to unlock.

another issue is the activation tab. i don't see all the stuff noted here.

Adam

The reason I want to unlock in the US is to use my Sidekick data plan on my IPhone. I don't use my Sidekick for calls, just for IM, TXT and Web. With ATT you can't get a data only plan, plus they change and arm and leg for TXT and I don't want 2 years since I already have a contract with TMobile.

On TMobile I have a $29.99 Data only plan. That would be SWEET on the iPhone! If I can get my TMobile SIM to work!

To setup edge on t-moble us

Then go to Settings>General>Network>EDGE> and change the APN to internet2.voicestream.com, and leave the user name and password blank! This will only work if you have the Total Internet Add-On enabled on your line. If you have the $5.99 t-zones, this won't work, since the iPhone doesn't have proxy settings built in. If you have the Total Internet Add-On w/ VPN enabled on your line then use: internet3.voicestream.com as your APN.

Yup. Search the iPhone hacking sites for the download links, but basically you need to have a copy of the firmware on your mac for INdependance to use. If you attempt to use the wrong firmware, it'll return an error. If not, it'll go right through.

My method:

Restore to newest software (itunes, phone)
jailbreak/activate/install ssh
used fugu to copy over the gui app to apps folder on iphone
ran gui app from phone
reset with new sim
reactivate with new sim

I kept getting an error message that I had an incorrect iccid. I kept putting in the one from the box but that didn't work. I went to general settings/about and found a different iccid- input that and everything else is history.

This is great - I'll be over from NZ soon to pick one of these up and use over here. But, let me make a plea for an app in the near future.

A lot of cellphones have the ability to save a 'profile' for each of your GPRS access providers. Let's say you have several SIMS - e.g. in Europe - you travel a lot and don't want to rack up roaming charges so so switch to the local country SIM card you have in your wallet.

So, other cellphones have the ability to save you APN, user, password for each provider under different profiles. SO, when you switch SIM card, you just switch profile to match the SIM, and you cellphone knows which settings to use.

Does the iPhone have this built in? I'm guesing not as it was built by Apple as a device specifically tied to onely one provider, rather than most other cellphones which are build 'vanilla' or with generic settings and then locked (sometimes) by the provider to their own network.

So, as well as breaking the network lock (which is great and I am grateful), I wonder if some bright team could develop a way of storing different GPRS profiles saving you from entering them afresh each time?

YouTube question : Does it only not work when you're using the EDGE network? It would seem to me that it would continue to work when using the internet through a WiFi connection... has anyone tried this? Or is YouTube completely non functional on a mac-unlocked phone?

If there is a mac fix for this someone post where it can be found. I'm going to work on unlocking one tomorrow and I want to have all the files/work-arounds/etc. that i need before I get into it.

Well, there's a bit of bad logic here. First of all, most people don't hack phones (even when it is as easy as asking your carrier for an unlock code). Some people out there even pay outrageous international roaming... go figure!

Second, you are assuming that the people who buy the iPhones would switch to ATT if there was no other choice, and that is definitely not true. I got my iPhone free and my carrier is Sprint. For overseas, I use prepaid chips. So even if I'd bought the phone to supplement my phone collection (I have 4 now), ATT would not lose any money on me, either would Apple.

Anyone know how Data would work as far as charges go if one were to go with T-Mobile2Go Plan. A $100 refill- 1000min one year expiration date on mins would last me about 3 months based on my personal call volume. But the data would be the deal killer here.

RJ

Data won't work with prepaid Tmobile. It does work with prepaid ATT chip (also $100/yr), but is super expensive. Stick to WIFI. You could also get T-mobile Hotspot, and use their unlimited WIFI at any Starbucks, airport, etc.

I've now tried 2 methods - the iUnlock GUI program on the iPhone itself, and the iphone.unlock.no method...both times unlocked the phone, so I could pop in my O2-UK SIM and it works fine.

BUT, both times, whenever I restart my iPhone, it seems to lose the unlock, and simply says "Incorrect SIM". I've tried taking it out/putting it back in, as well as re-activating with the new SIM, but it seems the only way is to start afresh.

Can anyone help please?

I'm an at&t user, but I was interested in unlocking my phone so I can use it when I travel out of the country.
I also have T-Mobile service, but I'm not interested in using the iphone with their slow data plans. at&t's is much faster. I'll stick to wifi when using t-mo.

I unlocked it last night using the http://iphone.unlock.no instructions on a Vista machine.

I can swap sims (at&t / t-mobile), made some calls, checked voicemail and everything seems to be working fine.
Wish there were data profiles that I can save for each SIM.

Thanks!

Power off/on. Also returning to jail knocks off the unlock as well (as this obviously power cycles the phone).

To activate? Yep, independance 1.1.1:-

-Restored completely to factory settings (1.0.2) using itunes, then quit itunes before phone restarted
-Took AT&T SIM out, then opened iTunes again to "pair" before using independance
-Put AT&T SIM back in, used independance to jailbreak, activate, and install SFTP/SSH
-Removed SIM
-Installed Installer.app using AppTap
-Set up Wifi inc. lock to "never"
-Installed Community Sources and BSD Subsystem using Installer.app
-Made sure still jailbroken after this
-Used Fugu to SFTP the 4 files into the iPhone's /usr/bin dir, then created /usr/local/etc and put the minicom.dfl in there
-Used Terminal to ssh into the iPhone, then run the iUnlock/commcenter/minicom stuff, which worked fine. Only error I got in the whole thing was after the first minicom command ("AT ...00000000" etc.) it returned "ERROR" rather than "OK" which it was meant to. I tried again as per the instructions (restarted minicom and ran bbupdater -v again [bbupdater returned ok result], but got the same error after the first minicom command, however after the second minicom command it returned "CLCK=O..OK" which is what it should do.
-Quit everything and ran the last "commcenter" command and then put O2 SIM in phone and it works fine. Just whenever I turn my phone off/on it loses it's unlock!

People if you use this guide (http://modmyiphone.com/wiki/index.php/IPhone_unlock_OS_X_Part_1) for mac, then you'll be fine. It has links to all the files and programs you need. Just read the instructions carefully. It's really not that difficult.

Do you have to actually return to jail before using AppTapp, or just quit independance (still jailbroken)?

Cool - I got "2-3 mins" for about 20 mins, Apptap just hung, so I returned to jail and all was well after that so I assumed it was because it was jailbroken. But I'll just quit ind. this time.

New to the forums. I have successfully unlocked my iphone using the http://iphone.unlock.no/, however, I would like to attempt to unlock it using the GUI method.

I installed the package to my Applications folder, and I get an icon and everything on my dashboard - but when I click on it - all I get is a white screen. Can anyone help me figure out what I did wrong?

Thx! XOXOXOXO

just bought an iPhone, in UK. Will let you know how unlock goes when i recieve it tomorrow. Plan to use it on a pay monthly vodaphone sim, will also test with orange sim.
few initial questions
1: Can you swap the sims without having to do the whole unlock process again?
2: Is it best to put the phone back to jail after its been unlocked or not?
3: When you connect to the computer from the iPhone using wifi, do you have to enable bonjour or anything, or just connect to your mac/pc directly using wifi? - if anyone could elaborate this that would be great.

once you unlock your phone, can you perform phone reset to take the phone back to factory settings or that can not be done

also when they say the hacked phone might get bricked by new apple update, what do they mean by that, like i can understand that calling feature on the phone might not work, or would it mess up the whole phone

For those who have unlocked - or are considering unlocking - your iPhone via software, iPhone Atlas has an article this morning noting that all of these unlocks are based on a Buffer Overflow Exploit which will likely be fixed quite soon for no other reason then it can be used as an attack vector for iPhone viruses.

I am actually using a sim from my Sidekick 3.

I know the APN for the SK is: hiptop.t-mobile.com but I am not sure if it requires a user name and password.

If I use hiptop.t-mobile.com then I don't get the edge error but I am told (When I am using web on the iPhone) that the hosts can not be found.

I don't have a BB but I am wondering if I can just get the plan switched over and deactivate my SK 3. I don't use it anyway.

(Hummmmmm, I do have an old BB might have to reactivate that and get a BB data plan)
