Prediction: 3 New Apps for iPhone!

I am predicting 3 new apps along with the iTunes Wifi Music Store. Here's why I think this...

As you can see, there are 3 spaces to the left of the iTunes Wifi icon. Why would they do that? I can see how maybe it could be because it looks different, kinda sets it apart, makes it stick out more. But I also think that Apple is cooking up some apps for us now and they are going to be ready by the time this iTunes Wifi store app hits. We already have evidence of some apps like translation widget, and a few others referenced in the files on the iPhone. We know apps are coming, we just don't know when. I think Apple is ready to give us 4 new apps at once. What do you think they are?

iChat, the movie times widget that he demoed that comes with leopard and something else which i have no idea, possibly finder.

I Think they'll add mms, translation (that would be good for travelers) and unit converter.

I was just thinking that customizable widgets would be amaizng. Also, I would love to see iChat on there. As far as improvements for existing services, yes, MMS would be great, as well as the ablility to send text messages to multiple people at once. It would also be great to be able to download pictures from the web to the photos app. Here's to hoping!

i'd love it if they made dedicated "apps" for existing functions. i'd love a contacts.app or a keypad.app. separate music and video (like on the touch) apps. add ichat and a movies widget, and i'd be really really happy.

of course, i don't think it'll happen any time soon. :(

I think Apple is willing to swallow the asymmetry pill to get a revenue generating feature on the phone asap (needed for wifipod too I believe).

They'll fill the other spaces when they devise the next scheme to make money.

while i would love the idea of 3 more apps for my iphone, i honestly think they just did that to ensure the wifi store icon is above the ipod icon on the dock. then the download arrow in the icon itself points to the ipod to clearly indicate that it's for downloading music to the ipod function in the iphone/ipod touch...

im guessing they put it on the right side because if you are right handed, then when you are holding it you can easily acess the wifi store with one hand (using your thumb) easily

Hmm.. that makes sense, and I agree. But I do still think that they wouldn't space it to the right without other icons to the left. So I still think they're coming.

The more I think about it the less I care if Apple releases an iChat app. It will never give support for Yahoo, MSN, etc., which the third party apps promise to do. So while iChat may be offially released, I'll be using what comes closest to Adium on my phone.

I agree with this statement. It seems logical that they would place the wi-fi iTunes icon above the iPod icon. Actually I would rather have it here than all the way to the left.

I don't see Apple introducing 3 more apps to the iPhone because I think that would hurt the iPod touch sales a little. Since lowering the price they have already increased the demand for the iPhone which is now priced at or just $100 above the iPod touch. If I didn't already own an iPhone and was considering both the iPod touch and iPhone I would probably choose the iPhone due to the fact that it's priced about the same and it has a lot more features. By adding even more features they will be taking demand away from the iPod touch. This is not to say that they will never add new apps to the iPhone. I just don't think they will do it so soon after announcing the iPod touch.

Personally, I think they will be adding more features and apps to the iPhone when they release Leapord. I don't have any inside information or anything. This is just my opinion. Of coarse, I hope i'm wrong and they do release more apps in a couple of weeks. :)

I don't find it unlikely that they'll add something to fill those blanks, just because the way SpringBoard works. It doesn't let you just make blank spots, it just uses a queue and each app just takes the next available space.

That said, MMS would be welcome.

Its very odd for a company that is so into aesthetics that it would suddenly start right justifying icons. The iPod touch has icons that don't fill up the entire row and they are left justified. Since they are using the same basic os, it is reasonable to assume they have some surprises in store.

I think what's the saddest part of this is how desperate we iPhone users are for something new from Apple that we start making this stuff up based on the position of icons....doesn't happen anywhere else.

one will be a 60 day countdown widget to the next iphone upgrade/price drop. the other space will link you directly to the apple store to purchase the new iphone that now makes your current one worth nothing.

I would say it is a little suspect when the Wifi Store logo on the iPhone is right justified but the row on the Touch that's not complete is left justified.

BUT, another thing to add to the pile. When Steve was intro'ing the Touch, they introduced icons one at a time, right? And they had icons on the right side blacked out.

WOW !! A whole thread on where apple placed an icon. They had to place it somewhere and above the IPOD icon seams the best place. But really we all need to get a life. (Including Me):D

we'll get nothing but the itunes wifi store. only reason for the delay is that apple wont release itunes wifi before ipod touch hits stores. nothing more. apple wont add anything to this phone unless it makes them money. if they do release ichat, it will cost us SMS messages, not data.

Well i am really hoping for iChat. I don't understand why they dont have this out. As for other programs, i dont know. I would like to be able single text messages (like maybe slide on the text baloon and that single text will delete). Also MMS would be nice, i dont use it all too often but its good to have on those rare occasions. Lyrics in the iPod app would be nice as well. Some sort of flash support, although thats not really something I care too much about either, since almost everything i wanna see is on youtube. Nothing else i can think of off the top of my head, but yes.

If they releasw iChat it would be using the internet and the way it would make them more money by people who were not buying it because it laked that feature buying it. and I'm sure that Apple gets almost nothing from each text, so selling a few more phones probably gets them more money than the texts do.

maybe true, but i dont know how many people, if any, dont have a data plan with their iphones. that wouldn't be too bright. i dont think we ever see ichat on this phone, maybe in the 2nd gen. i do think we'll see flash just because apple told walt mosberg that it was coming, or he said jobs assured him it was on its way.

There's no doubt that Apple will eventually release new apps for the iPhone in addition to the Wireless iTMS app already announced. Perhaps new apps will come along with Leopard.

It just doesn't seem credible that the asymmetry of icons on the home screen will be the reason they do it. If that were the case then we'll have to wait for Apple to come up with sets of four applications at a time for every time they want to release new features. I can't think of anything other way to express it except to say that it would really blow if that were the case.

Im guessing that since the iPhone and iPod Touch run the same OS the Contacts app can be hacked off the Touch. Only time will tell though.

i'm pretty sure i read somewhere that the at&t iphone handbook said mms and chat was included in the plan.
in this forum i believe.

but i think that if they did add mms and chat support it wouldn't be a new app.. they would just change the sms app to say "ichat" or "chat" or something. thats the smart thing to do anyway.

What about the calculator icon changing colors??

Has anyone noticed the calculator icon on the touch has changed colors from the iPhone?

In Jobs' keynote the iphone shows the darker calculator icon on the iPhone too.

Are they going to change the iPhone calculator icon too?
