HDV Cameras and Imovie08....image quality?

I love imovie 08 and have an old SD Sony camcorder. However, the final edited footage looks grainy, dulled (a little worse than just watching it on TV via camcorder).
Question -
If I buy a HDV Camcorder (Canon hv 20/Sony hc7) and use imovie08, can I expect a Significant upgrade in edited video quality?? I don't think imovie supports HD....

iMovie supports both HDV and AVCHD. The HV20 will give you a significant upgrade in image quality.
