View Full Version : The most fun band ever?

Last night I had the pleasure of seeing, for the second time, a Swedish band called 'I'm from Barcelona'. They really are the most fun band I have seen in a very very long time. There was 13 (I think) people on stage last night I believe it can be anything up to 20. They play really upbeat pop songs with lots of sing-a-long choruses. Plenty of crowd participation, lots of confetti, giant balloons, kazoo solos, mental. I can recommend seeing them (more useful for those of you in UK/Europe i guess), or at least listening to the album. NOTE: this is not a novelty band. That would be something different entirely.

Also afterwards one of the band members/hangers on/whatever called 'Adventure Kid' played a set of Swedish techno/chip-tunes. It was really good. If that's your bag then check him out...

Any other bands touring at the mo I should check out? (East of England/London)

This thread will not be complete until someone mentions the B52s! :D

Three dates still in the US in 2007... (http://www.theb52s.com/shows.html)

Heh.

Perhaps check Of Montreal. Although the only show I'm seeing for them in 'Europe' is in Iceland. =)

I second Gogol Bordello!!

I saw Fishbone a few times in the 90's and they were highly entertaining. Trumpets and trombones flying through the air!

I'll agree with your being old, and the bands you like. I, too, am oldish.

What about Mojo Nixon? That was a party!

I second the Flaming Lips suggestion! Just saw them on Sunday, and wow, what a mindblowing show! Definitely a band that everyone should see before they die...they're that amazing.

The Cat Empire!

Great fun to see live, in fact the best live act I'm yet to see. Brilliant fun, and brilliant music/musicianship. I've never come across such a good crowd either, the audience were so mixed in terms of age, it had a really great 'family' feeling. Bangin' tunes though, never heard anything so distinctive...

I've seen some RHCP and some Oingo-Boingo on here mentioned...good stuff.

I've also heard that MSI (Mindless Self Indulgence) has a pretty interesting live show. I'm not a big fan of their music, so I wouldn't go myself, (although I find it also to be quite interesting, to say the least). Just thought I'd mention that, though.

Barenaked Ladies.

Easily the most fun I've ever had at a concert.

And it's different every night.

Cheers.

Haven't seen them for ages, but in my younger days/years they were real fun bands to watch and listen to:

Leningrad Cowboys (http://www.leningradcowboys.fi/)
Toy Dolls (http://www.thetoydolls.com/) :D

Although they can be boring after the 3rd concert, everyone should watch one
show of Shibuza Shirazu orchestra. Dragons, weird actors, painted dancing girls. Google for it.

I really want to go see them! I missed a chance to a few weeks ago when they came to Bristol (close to Bath), but I could go for some reason (can't remember now). I love their tunes...

When you go, if you want to get onstage, take a really big, funny sign. And be prepared to play an instrument.

King Kurt, concerts were a riot with buckets of goo etc!Oh... Popa Wobler is a classic...!

But for the most fun band I will have to say Toy Dolls with songs like Yul Brunner Was A Skinhead (http://www.dailytunes.com/songs/20050711123838.html), The Ashbrooke Launderette, My Girlfriend's Dad is a Vicar, How Do You Deal With Neal, My Wife's a Psychopath, Dez the Demon Decorator, Florence is Deaf (But There Is No Need To Shout), etc, etc. Pure gold from Olga and the lads... :D

They really have to be experienced live, but they've got a CD out and it's great.

NOTE: this is not a novelty band.

That's debatable...
