View Full Version : Anyone with a preorder pissed?

I ordered my Ipod Touch the day they announced it at about 1pm Eastern Time and it still has no sign of shipping soon, but the apple stores are getting them and people are getting them before me. I mean why would I "preorder" the Ipod Touch if I can get it before the preorder. Kind of ticks me off.

Well I ordered mine last night before I saw all the threads about the stores getting them. I went to cancel it this morning, but it's already prepared for shipment. So if it ships within the next couple of days, I'm fine with it. If it stays in "prepared for shipment" status until the 28th, then I'll be pissed since I won't be able to cancel.

Did you pre-order the 8GB version??? If you did I would say that you will be waiting, all that I have heard of in stores or shipping is the 16GB version.

No offense, but what makes you think you were in some sort of special pre-order-advance-release queue?

You ordered an iPod from the online store, you didn't pre-order anything. Just because the Apple online store takes your CC# and sets up your order doesn't get you any sort of priority order.

You bought yours from a central, global store. When your chosen store gets stock they'll ship it to you. If you don't want to wait for that, tough balls.

I could have sworn that on the day they were announced, it did say Pre-Order. I could be wrong, but that's what I thought it said.

Someone should tell the Apple store to eliminate the Pre before the word order.

Why? If you can't wait, just go buy one in the store, then return the shipped one (unopened, untouched) to the store once it's received. That's perfectly legit.

And if this was the case, why are they selling it to people AT the store rather than shipping it to the people who already purchased it in that area.

Well that would be done but the nearest store is 2+ hrs away. The lack of a local store has always been a touchy point with me.

For future reference, Apple retail stores almost always get the product in-stock before people who ordered online get it.

This is why I waited and didn't order online. I thought it was a pretty sure thing that they'd be in stores before they shipped pre-orders out.

Wait a minute, people who ordered yesterday have theirs shipping!? I ordered within 24 hours of it being announced and it isn't shipping until Oct 5th. I called apple yesterday and they told me tough (I was super polite on the phone). Yeah, I'm pissed. I'm about to cancel and just forget the whole thing. The least they could do is ship in order. October 10th is when they say I'll get it ... a whole month after everyone else. Not cool. And I seem to be the only one with such a late delivery date too ...

How do you know it's not shipping until the 5th? That seems strange. I called immediately after the press release and mine is prepared for shipping. Hopefully that means soon. I'm SURE you'll get it before the 5th then.

I'm not in that much of a rush to get my iPod Touch. I can wait for the shipping after I ordered mine via Apple.com

In my opinion, those that want items on the day of release should just go to a store. If you order online, you still have to wait 2-5 days for delivery so people would still get one before you.

Ordered not yet shipped... I really want it to ship this week, because i want my touch, and either way i have to drive 2 hours to get it (home). :o

-BII mine says the same dates as you..for expected shipment. I am thinking about calling because they shipped my iMac late by 2 weeks, and i got money put back. If everyone else is getting 16gb w/ custom engravings i will be calling. So please let me know if anyone ordered a 16gb w/ an engraving and has it already.

I have to admit I'm a little bit frustrated by it. My local store DOES have them in now, but I can't cancel my pre-order because it's in the "Prepared for Shipment" status. I obviously would never have pre-ordered had I known that I could have driven to the store and gotten one sooner.

Seems to defeat the purpose of "PRE-order" to me. Pay for it early to get it later than everyone else it seems. I don't get it.

Yeah i agree, i mean i think i have a chance to go to pittsburgh over the weekend, with my luck though as soon as i leave and cancell the order it will be in the pairpared for shipment or the apple store in pitt will run out..

Either way, I guess i can't complain if they are running the ones the are shipping out under some tests to make sure they are fine. If that was the case i'd be okay with it.

Yep. Growing up I always pre-ordered video games. When it becomes available, you get a copy before anyone who didn't pre-order.

Not saying that shipping the couple hundred shipped to stores would have put a big dent into fulfilling thousands pre-orders, but it would have been the correct way to do things.

Was it an actual pre-order in terms of the words? Just curious, I don't remember seeing the word "pre" appearing before order, but I could be wrong. Apple stores often times have the product shortly before those who order get it. Some swear by ordering early b/c at least you are assured that you will get it. Early on in stores it is a crap shoot.

I enjoy walking out of the store with the box in my hand, so I tend to avoid ordering online, and I was fortunate enough to snag an 8GB this AM, but they only had 3 left.

You can go to the Apple site now and look at the bottom right corner and there is an option for "pre"order

Ordering an iPod is not a PRE order in that sense. You are misunderstanding the term (or Apple is using it incorrectly).

Either way, a web order is just an order like any other.

Since I just picked mine up at the Apple Store in Denver and I can't cancel it online, I'll be returning the unopened box to the local Apple Store, explain the situation, and have them give me a full refund. I'm not paying for shipping on the way back.

I feel your pain - on the other hand, if you don't have a store "in range," it seems academic whether the stores have them in or not; that is, it has no practical bearing on you getting one faster vs. ordering online.

Me, I'm getting irriatated b/c I'm close to 3 stores yet probably won't be able to get one anyway (all gone yesterday, will be gone before 5 PM, or never had any).

Yes, we all are, and they're not in the shops over here. Personally I'm glad - the UK iPhone specs and details are being announced on Tuesday so if there's a 16GB iPhone in the offing for a decent price I'm cancelling the Touch.

And if this was the case, why are they selling it to people AT the store rather than shipping it to the people who already purchased it in that area.

The reason for shipping it to stores first is because they are already guaranteed the online pre-ordered sales. By shipping the Touch to stores first, they are able to get more sales by spontaneous customers who see it in the store and buy it there. This is especially important when people are flocking to stores to check out the new Nano. The point is, they already have your money, so you are no longer the priority. Sucks, but that's business.

I'm also in the "waiting to ship" boat, but only because someone pre-ordered it for me with an engraving. Since I can't complain about being bought a new Touch, I won't.

Much love,

I pre-ordered mine with Best Buy and I hear a few members who have walked into various Best Buys and they have a LOT in stock there. I have had a pre-order with them since the 7th, I sent an email to the online store regarding my confusion of what a Pre-Order and an In Store Pick Up.

Here is the email I sent them.

"My question is regarding what the term "pre-order" and "in store pickup" really mean. I first made a pre-order of an 8GB iPod Touch (326.00) with 2 day shipping. I then had my PreOrder changed to the 16GB iPod Touch (436.00) with 2 day shipping (as is the current order number supplied with this email). It now says the item is in backorder and will be shipped when availability is present on 10.01.07. Now this is all fine and dandy - even though I don't have a ship date anywhere on my order status, except for one thing;

How is it that I have had my Pre-Order and there are quite a few people who have walked into various Best Buys and picked them up. My thing is, what is a pre-order, I thought it meant that I would get it as soon as it was available, and would be one of the first to get it, as I have already paid (verified to) for it. And Best Buy online is the only source to which I can order it from. It makes you think they would be getting it first verses the stores who mostly think it will be out "the end of the month".

The same situation arises for the Apple Online Store. They did Pre-Orders too, except when they became available in the stores people could just walk in and get them before the people who have already paid for theirs online. Quite a few people have actually called Apple about this and they were told they couldn't really do much except offer free expedited shipping. This is absolutely unacceptable. This is just like when you are first in line to get a specific product and the clerk says they don't have it. Then the next person in line asks for the same product and they clerk then says, oh, here you go. Unacceptable!

I don't want to come off as rude, and I'm not mad at you (whomever is reading this) but what can be done about this? I would take my pre-order off and buy it at the Apple Store if they have more come in within the next week verses waiting for my "pre order" to come in in twenty more days, and paying for shipping.

Yah I'm kinda irritated as well... I could go down the road in 10 minutes and have my 16GB now, but I can no longer cancel my order since it switched to "Prepared for Shipment". I think Apple did this on purpose to prevent a mass cancellation of orders from all the pre-order folks. At least I got $50 off from my original "1G & 3G iPod Battery Settlement" case... Being patient is a good thing right?

Yeah I have to admit I am a little irritated by the hole deal with the pre-ordering and such, if it says pre-order then we should get it before other people do. If they would just take the pre-ordering name off everything would be fine.

I still am glad that I ordered mine online, even though it hasn't yet been shipped and is not due till October 2, because I got the personal engraving. I know that may not seem that important but I like it, and since it came free, heck yes. I have no patience at all in this world but I think I might be able to wait, because from what i heard, its going to be worth it.

btw, this is my very first ipod, I was planning on buying one for my birthday (Sep. 21) anyways and I lucked up by hearing about the keynote. I am excited, even though I have to wait for ever freakish long for it.

- I ended up calling Best Buy as the email wasn't getting sent to them for some reason. And after the half hour phone call, going from one person to another and having to hang up with little to show for it, I left for work.

- Sure enough when i came back I had a few new emails. My order status had changed, it was saying 10.01.07 was the ship date and I would get it on the 3rd, now it says 09.14.07 is the new ship date, but it still says my order is backordered (they are out of stock) but on my other email the woman I spoke to said that my order should be sent out on Monday and I should recieve it either by Wed or Friday being the latest next week.

- So I'm happy about that! I dunno if the status of my order changed becuase of my call or not... But I'm glad something new happened!
Now all I have to wait for is my confirmation email about charging to my card and my tracking number.

Any order before an item is officially released is a pre-order.

Not only was it a pre-order, they added an incentive of free engraving if you pre-ordered before it's release.

Pre-orders are first orders, and orders should be filled in chronological order. First orders get filled first. Otherwise those getting queue-jumped get, as the title of this thread suggests, mightily annoyed.

From My understanding, all iPods have free ingraving no matter when you purchase as long as they are ordered on line from Apple.

Any order before an item is officially released is a pre-order.

iPod engraving has never (to my recollection) had a charge associated with it, so that's not an incentive at all.

I called the Apple Store at the Florida Mall, here in Orlando, FL and they said they had them, did I want the 8gb or the 16gb. I said the 16gb. They then said that they would hold the iPod touch until 9pm when the store closed and took my name. That was way cool for them to do that.

Morale of my story - if you are close to a store, call and see if they will hold one for you.

Anyway, they did have three of them on display but there was no advertising announcing the new iPod touch's.

I agree as well that it sucks if you pre-ordered and are still waiting. I was going to order mine as well and get engraving but then when I read these boards, I decided, what the heck, call the local Apple Store and see. But then again, not everyone has that opportunity.

Thanks for that info. As a first time iPod buyer, I got the impression it was a 'sweetener'.

This kind of reminds me of camping out for the Wii. It was the preorder camp out, the system itself was still two months out. Anyway I was second in line for 14 hours, it was 40 degrees out, I didn't sleep at all, but I got my preorder. So then came the big launch. I drove down to Gamestop at quarter to eleven, I had my receipt, everybody lined up according to their number and the store managers locked the doors. As we all stood patiently some dude we'd never seen before knocked on the glass. The manager ran to the chain link partition, cracked it open and let this kid in. He must've been 19 or 20 and looked an awful lot like the manager. Two minutes later the kid dashed out carrying a brand new Wii in a bag, trying his best to conceal it from the rest of us. Everyone was pissed. We asked the manager who that kid was and how he got a preorder without standing in line. Very aggravated the manager mouthed, "He's an employee" and stormed back inside. Five minutes later they started letting us in, one by one. Thankfully the guy packing my stuff wasn't the same manager, but a nicer, happier clerk. I asked him, "Who was that kid that got let in before us? None of us saw him on preorder day, and he most certainly wasn't at the front of the line." And then he said four words that will always been engraved in my mind. "He's the manager's brother." Okay, well maybe that doesn't completely apply in this situation, but it really bugs me how preordering doesn't always guarantee first come first serve.

So my order says it's prepared for shipment. What does that mean exactly? Do they have the actual Ipod boxed up with my name on it? Or have they gone so far as to print off the FEDEX label that will go with the Ipod two weeks from now? I paid for priority shipping so I could get it as soon as possible? Now I feel like I kinda wasted ten bucks.

So I figured I would just let Apple ship my iPod touch right? Well if I would have went home this weekend (from college, which i was planning to do, but i thought that two weeks in a row my parents would not be happy about) I could have went to a Best Buy and gotten one already..

I think that is a legitimate reason to call apple and complain a little, I will be nice about it and post my results if you guys want.

I, also, was unhappy about the late shipment on the ipod touches as bestbuy is holding one for me right now. Anyway, I called Apple to cancel the order and explained the situation with best buy holding one for me, and they offered me 45 dollars off my purchase price... just so everyone knows.

Any time I've pre-ordered online before, amazon or play.com, whatever, I have received the product ON release day, in the post in the morning. They post them the day before release so you get them on time. Occasionally I've received something a day or two BEFORE the official release day because they've made an effort to get them in the post, and fulfil orders IN THE ORDER IN WHICH THEY WERE RECEIVED.
I am in the UK, so not only am I not getting the chance to drive to a store and get one, they are not released AT ALL here, while people are able to wander into stores in the US and just pick one up.
Apple have always excelled at releasing products simultaneously, Steve announces as soon as the announcement, or maybe next day at a push (if the announcement is in the evening UK time) they are in stores and available.
Apple said on or before the 28th. If they didn't have enough stock to post out all the preorders, and stock the stores, they could have waited until they did have stock. Their options were.
1. Post preorders when they have enough stock for them, then when they have enough stock to stock the stores, make them available in store.
2. Wait until they had enough total stock for sores and preorders, and post the orders out the day before they are available in store.
3. Ignore the preorders, and just stock up the stores. Piss off your loyal customer base in the process and create confusion.

I can really see why they went for 3!

I am so utterly pi***d off with this. I live in Spain and have never had a problem receiving apple products on time. I realise that the shipping date was the 28th Sept but to me this means that anybody that pre-orders should receive them before, or when, they are available in Apple Stores. This is NOT the case. One month after I receive it they will probably lower the price by 200 dollars.

What i don't like is how clueless the people at 1800myapple are.

"When the ship date for the ipod touch?"
"Sept. 28"
"You sure?"
"thats what the website says."

If everything customer service could tell you was on a website, you wouldnt need customer service. :|

anyone know if invisible shield will be shipping their product soon?
this is what i got from them.

Hello,

Thank you for contacting ShieldZone! My name is Nathan, and I appreciate the opportunity to assist you.

We do have you order. I am sorry to say it will not be shipping until the Ipod touch is released which is in about two weeks.

Thank you for choosing the invisibleSHIELD. We appreciate your business!

Clueless, ordering online from the Apple store is only one of many points of sale to purchase the iPod touch. Please show me something, anything that said you had some type of entitlement to have your product first.

You knew what the approximate time frame was when you placed your order. Pre-order is just that, you are placing an order prior to the product being released but with no form of guarantee that your place of purchase was going to be the first to begin distribution.

Oh...Give me a break. There are people here who live outside of the US of A. Not everybody has access to Apple Stores! It is extremely unusual for apple to release a product before a Pre order date, especially when it is available in NON apple stores. I am sure that many people, including those in the US, are peed off that somebody can walk into a store and obtain something that they probably have to wait 2 weeks for.

I for one am glad that I not only pre-ordered, but chose the free engraving.

Why?

What about the screen problems? Half of the early early adopters are reporting screen problems. I hope that Apple will clear up the screen problem before mine ships! If not, I got Apple Care.

My personal taste is that I am keeping this product for years of pleasurable use. What's 1 week or 2? When we pre ordered it was acknowledging that we would see the product 1st week of October. If it's later than that, time to complain.
