Ewwww, that's seriously minging. I only saw outer case pics or are there more elsewhere? Is this just an outer case project... what's that gonna look like with an aluminium keyboard? Surely he's not doing the whole thing and making every single key too?

It is also possible it could just be chrome finish coloured in Photoshop. The reflection/specularity would be a bit different if that was the case though.
I would not be surpised if there are some gold Ipods and Mbps etc floating around for filthy rich clients.

It sounds heavy. I could see several celebrities wanting this, especially since it is a well known trend with mobile phones, so why not notebooks as well?

It's only plating, I doubt it'd weigh noticeably more than normal.

The thing is that the aluminum on MBPs help dissapate heat, how hot would a gold MBP run?
Animalk
Sep 15, 2007, 11:20 AM
Gold is the ultimate heat dissipator. They line the engine compartment of the McLaren F1 car with sheets of gold. It's kind of funny since many people complain about their MBP's running too hot :)

personally that thing looks like ass.... fingerprints galore
... not being racist, but i know a lot of Middle East and Eastern people like gold way more than the rest of us....
... personally if he wanted shiny i think it would look better as just pollished aluminum... although no way i would try to polish mine, sooo thin would prolly get hot and warp on the buffer....

There are some with too much time and too much money. I hope he gives it to a charity to auction off. That thing will have scratches within an hour after owning it.
Can you imagine using it out in the sun? The person is going to start some fires.

A clean silver Apple Logo would look WAY better.
If I was filthy rich, I would buy myself a Gold plated MBP...
The problem is, can I consider myself filthy rich ?...I think I need to sleep on this.

And that differs from other Apple products how? I think I scratched the metal back of my iPod getting it out of the box and scratched the plastic front turning it on!

Substitute black velvet paintings for shag and you've got Puerto Rico.

You could also get a white gold plated one I'm sure. And I wouldn't expect it to last very long. It'd be pretty hard to get a thick layer of gold on something that big.
I personally wouldn't mind a colored aluminum MBP. That'd be easier and more cost effective. FWIW, I think with some of the stuff we have at work, I could turn my MBP black. Acid does some weird things to metals, especially when you mix electricity in with it all.

yuck...that looks awful >.>
I wonder why people like gold so much. There's a group of people called the "new rich" who think EVERYTHING gold is pretty. Really, it's not.... Or, they would buy pretty much anything golden (like a $50K, 24k Gold Mouse...)...I myself consider gold to be a particularly difficult color to use, especially on high-end electronics. It just doesn't look good, in most cases.

I think the keyboard looks pretty cool, maybe if it was that keyboard and a gold colored mbp (not gold plate, too much shine for me) almost like the new gold razr I think someone else mentioned.

I think I read somewhere that it was an additional $1000 on top of a MBP. Though, I'm not 100% sure.

Thanks. Found this linkety (http://x1brettstuff.blogspot.com/) which quotes a 24kt gold plating at US$1200-1500 extra. No surprise that it's linked to bornrich.org (http://www.bornrich.org/entry/in-photos-gold-plated-macbook-pro-project/) :D
