So, let's find a name for Apple's hopefully-soon-to-arrive new Office suite. Since Keynote was developed for Steve Jobs exclusively, I would suggest "iJob(s)". :D

I would say if they made (a much needed) 7.0 release of AppleWorks, it would be fine, or iWorks, or iOffice, or iSuite...or if they just call it OpenOffice (hint, hint). I wouldn't mind if they just made a better AppleWorks, though. The program definitely could use an update/version level change after all this time.

AppleWorks is really the last Apple-made application that *REALLY* is in desperate need of an update. That thing still has the annoying 32 character filename limit. And it doesn't have the nice spell-checking abilities of Cocoa programs. Arg!

I'd think that they're probably going to rename it, given that AppleWorks already had a presentation component, but Apple released Keynote at MWSF this past January.

It's definitely outdated...I remember buying it before OS X 10.0 was even released. It was one of Apple's first hybrid Carbon based programs that would "bridge" the transition to OS X...3 years later it is still the same AppleWorks 6...with all the limitations it had back in OS 9. It's annoying, because Apple *seriously* has some really kick ass software that is just beyond anything out there...but we still have this pokey AW6.

I hope they come out with a better version of AppleWorks, called iWorks, that has even better integration with MS Office. I often have to type drafts of papers at home, then revise and finish them up at school. Problem is, my school only has 15 Apples, and they're almost always in use, and don't have AppleWorks on them anyhow.

I know they're supposed to work seamlessly, but that hasn't been my experience.

Probably Microsoft's fault.
