MacBook Pro heat issue

it's 60 degrees outside, and my window is open. and i am not doing cpu intensive work on my laptop, just web browing, and im-ing, but according to smcfancontrol, the temperature is almost 80 celcius and w/ a fan speed of 3000rpm+! I dont know if it's because some application that i installed, but my macbook pro (new santa rosa 2.2ghz) used to be just around 60 c and fan speed of ~2000rpm. should i be concerned? i dunno why the sudden increase of temp/fan. any helpful input is much appreciated

MBPs just run hot, nothing to worry about. If there is ever any actual danger the computer will shut itself off to prevent damage.

the thing is, my mbp used to be around 60C and ~2000rpm under normal usage. i just dunno y this sudden increase of temperature and fan speed

i do have speck case for my mbp and the keyboard protector. but i dont think they are the problem, since i had them before and didnt have a heat problem

Open Activity Monitor in your Utilities folder and check to see if any of your open processes is using excessive resources. I find that macrumors.com is one of the guilty sites, along with any other with embedded flash video links, that can send temperatures soaring.

That is 176F - I am at 110F @ 2340 rpm - web browsing and mail only.

MBP 2.33 w/ 2GB ram.

Sounds as if it is running hot to me - especially with that high rpm on the fans.

My 2 week old SR MBP runs 3000 rpm at 45 degrees celsius.

Mine was running hot with lots of System CPU usage.

I restarted and temps dropped 10 degrees. Right now it's 45C

MBP runs hot. Same temp here. I got smcfancontrol and it works great. Rght now I am doing some movie editing and and at 80c with fans at 4000.

My C2D MacBook Pro usually runs at ~50C.

The only thing that heats it up is a program that starts to use a lot of the CPU. For example, if I'm viewing a webpage that has a Flash ad/video on it.

weckart's suggestion was spot on, IMO. Open Activity Monitor, look at the CPU usage and see if a process is using a lot of the % CPU.

Seriously? You can get the same qualities in a leaf blower. That doesnt sound normal.

i just did that, but my usage seems rather reasonable. i actually called apple about it, the tech told me to remove the battery and press down and hold the power button for 5 seconds. it didnt really work for me, guess i will call back tomorrow, i will keep you guys posted on my heat situation

i think i just found the problem. i just went back to Activity Monitor and clicked on All Processes in the scroll window, apparently, this program called "printjobmgr" was using 99% of my cpu! after i force quit that program, the temperature/fan speed dropped down immediately! i did have some problem w/ my cannon printer recently; noticeably, i cannot print from Microsoft Words, an error msg always pops up telling me to check the setting in printcenter. my mbp is now running at a comfortable 48C/2000rpm. does anyone know how to fix the printjobmgr thing, and y is it acting up as a cpu hog?
