iPhoneDevWiki has posted (http://iphone.fiveforty.net/wiki/index.php/Latest_Progress_Report) the first versions of an easy to use GUI version of the SIM unlocking tool that has been circulating on the internet.
This new version needs only be copied over to the phone and executed, it's full automatic. No more needs for fls or extract bin files out of the nordump. It should also cut the time down to max. 3-5 minutes.
If successful, the tool should unlock your iPhone so that you can use any network's SIM card for service. A number of commercial solutions had previously been mentioned.

This appears to be a very early version and anecdotal reports have had mixed results (http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=6827), so you should proceed with caution at this time.

I was browsing around the net earlier and someone managed to brick their iPhone with this tool.

Obviously there have also been many successful unlockings, but never forget the risk you take when you perform these hacks :) Think of the iPhones! They have souls too.

It's only natural to have early version bugs...

I've unlocked 7 iPhones to date with the modmyiphone method founded here (http://modmyiphone.com/wiki/index.php/IPhone_unlock_OS_X_Part_1).

Enjoy...

I unlocked two iPhones with these tools, and when I came to repeat the process, AnySim was available. It works very well.

The best walkthrough, imho, is at ModmyiPhone.com, link:

Good site for all things iPhone - also YouTube works with anysim right off, and if you want EDGE data facility on your carrier, there is a list of the logins and passwords for most carriers around the world.

Restore will lock the phone again, but it really only takes about 15 minutes or less to unlock it again.
I used Cyberduck to ssh to the phone.

One caveat - you must have a wireless network where you are doing the unlocking.

Love my iPhone!

What part does the wireless connection play in the unlock? Everything else makes sense to me but this part. What is it connecting too? I assume that I have all the files on my computer and they are loaded through the usb cable.

First post! :D

You need the WiFi, because you need to download BSD Subsystem, SSH from the Internet with the Installer App on your iPhone.(You must install it first)

Guys - do these tools enable the use of NO SIM (or the one that came with it without ATT). What I want to do is simply activate it so I can use all the features except for the Phone. . .what is the best procedure (there are many)?

I unlocked my phone through anysim and by far it was the easiest unlock and the only susessful unlock I have done. The only problem with it is that like the other programs it disabled YouTube completely and it disabled email as well. Besides these 2 issues my phone works just fine.

there are programs that will activate your phone prior to unlocking. I beleive Independence is one of them.

Has anyone tried successfully unlocking their phone with anySIM, and then switching to a different SIM card, either on the same network or otherwise?

And no problems!

OK, I have a 1.0.2 iPhone.
I unlocked it using the directions at http://iphone.unlock.no/ I am now fully functional with with T-Mobile.
I don't have to upgrade to 1.1.1, but don't mind doing it if it's safe. My problem is that I am getting lost in the wave of options now.
Can anyone help straighten me out - I need a good solution that will allow me to take my iPhone to formware 1.1.1 and allow me to continue using all functions while using a non-AT&T SIM.

Thanks,
Sargepepper
