Buying iPhone as a NON-US Person ?

Perhaps this might be a stupid question. A friend of mine is going to the US for a few days and wants to pickup one or two iPhones.

I've heard its not possible to buy an iPhone in an Applestore without having a US social security number.

What would be another way to do this ?

I've thought about ordering one from the online Applestore and having it delivered at his hotel.

You do not need a US SS# to purchase an iPhone.

I don't remember them asking for my SSN.
I am pretty sure they don't.

Wow really thats nice to hear. Thought that was the case. So its possible to buy three phones without activating them and unlocking them ?

Pretty cool. Thought you had to sign something before you could buy one.

I was in California last week and popped into an apple store, went straight to the counter and asked for an 8GB iPhone.
No SS Number asked, although the assistant did ask for my Zip Code.
I said I lived in the UK and he said OK no problem, paid with Cash, no further questions.

yeah it's a phone, you're not filing your taxes. If anyone asks for a SS# tell them to get you the manager or you'll take your business elsewhere.

Serious? So what happens to that contract with the operator? hehe I might be buying an iPhone sooner than I thought. Unless of course there out in Ireland before year end hmmm.... :D

You needed the SS# if you bought one at the AT&T store and wanted to pre-qualify for phone service via a credit check...
