Hi,

I am poised to buy a 12" powerbook (my first mac ) but I need some help with networking so I know what products to order at the same time so I can get everything set up as soon as possible.

I have an ADSL connection currently attached to my Wintel PC via a USB modem (the ugly green manta ray one). I want to wirelessly share the ADSL connection between this PC and my new powerbook. What do I need in order to do this and what are the principles behind it?

I would like to be able to use the connection on my powerbook even when the PC is off (and vice versa)

Any help would be much appreciated!

To begin with, there are not to my knowlege any routers which have an USB interface for dataconnectivity.

So, things you need are:
1. An ADSL-modem with an ethernet interface
2. A wireless router
3. An airport(extreme) card in your powerbook
4. Any Wifi interface in your PC

That should be about the hardware part of your needs.

Before you buy #1, check if your modem doesn't have both USB and ehternet, if not, there isn't much you can do. The rest can be bought at any store.

The building and designing of the whole network is a bit much to discuss. But this is a start, hope it helps.
