Iphone in India?

Just wanted to know that if i purchase the iphone today from US , can i unlock it and use it in India. Also does it void the warranty if something happens to the iphone.

You'll void the warranty if you physically meddle with the device - software only unlocks could be reset by itunes to factory default and therefore I think should be OK.

How is EDGE/wifi hotspot situation in India?
