And I can't believe how many other people are the same! (Shadowfax and Powerbook G5 come to mind)

Right handed, right mouse. Interesting that this poll should come up just as I'm having problems with my mouse. Why, oh why, did I install the MS IntelliPoint software? Anyone know how to get rid of it?

Do you know that lefty's have a shorter life span?

For some reason the code randomly got jumbled so I had to edit and manually try to fix it with my limited knowledge of vB code...not sure where all those characters came from, they didn't show up until I hit Submit Reply. As for the lifespan...we'll see, my friend, we'll see...*patting a baseball bat* :D

it seems to me i suggested this somewhere earlier today...most likely in this thread (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=35594). it's nice to see suggestions get used :D ...

i'm with the majority...right handed with mouse in the right hand...

screw all you lefties out there
:D :D :D

and anyone that votes "don't use a mouse" is just a jerk and likes to account for inaccurate poll results.

The next poll should be "If the Lefties of the world unite, would they be able to seize power and subject the Righties of the world to remedial labor" I know my vote on that one :D I think Supreme Overlord has a nice ring to it...

Seriously, although I can't right too well left handed, I can do anything else. I use the mouse where ever I have room... and use my touchpad with my left hand only.

I actually use a Logitech Marble Mouse which is a trackball designed for either hand and I've used that with either hand. The graphics tablet is definitely a right-handed deal with the stylus.

Here are the instructions to fix your problem:

1. Throw away MS Intellimouse.
2. Buy a Logitech or Macally mouse (my vote goes for Logitech).
3. Install NO drivers!
4. Be happy.

Now, one thing which I think they should have added for the poll, is an option like: "Have no arms, use tongue or nose".

Being a poor student, I just bought the cheapest mouse I could find. But installing the drivers was a big mistake!

of course, not as rare as people who use the mouse with the left hand.

But not as rare as people who don't use a mouse at all - which is what I voted for.

Ofcourse I'm currently using one, but it's such a retro thing that I'm going to have to see if I can do without one for a while.

Ahhm there's nothing in life like a good challenge :D

left handed - right hand mouse/trackpad. thank you, apple, for not letting us switch the orientation of the cursor arrow so that it isn't backwards to lefties. i need to get that haxie someone here recommended.

at work my M$ mouse is contoured so that only a right hand can use it. i should sue the buggers!!

Left handed and I use the mouse with my left hand ( or currently my trackball with my left hand).

Strange all the people who are lefties and use the mouse with their right hand. Then again in school I could write much neater on a chalk board with my right hand ( but I was much faster writing with my left). I also kick right footed.

Silly poll, but I always have wondered why I use my right hand for the mouse since I'm left handed. And I learned how to use a mouse (with my right hand) way back in the day with a single button old school Apple mouse on a IIgs!

Powerbook G5
Aug 21, 2003, 10:11 AM
I think the reason why I learned to use my right hand is that on the PC side, 90% of the time, you have a contoured Rightie mouse. Whenever we got a new PC, most of the time it had a Microsoft contoured mouse, so I was stuck being forced to use it with my right hand, so now, it's just what I end up using with *any* mouse. Kinda sucks, doesn't it! It does confuse people, though, so there is a plus side to it.

Aug 21, 2003, 10:28 AM
I'm right handed but I use the mouse with my left hand 90% of the time. I had to switch because it was causeing pain in my sholder. People visit my office and use my computer and say "I didn't know you were left handed" I'm not. Then they start using the mouse and I've switched the buttons and they just go crazy. That is reason enough to switch.

Left handed, and using the mouse with my right hand.

For me, just like playing guitar, using a computer like a right-hander is advantageous. Most of the important keys on the keyboard are available to my left hand, so my weak hand is free to push the mouse around. This is probably why most Lefties use the mouse in their right hand, and not because they want to conform to the right(wrong;)) way of doing things.

the reason that there are so many left handers that use Macs...We use the right side of our brain.:D

Think different, down with Microsoft.

Try DesInstaller (http://krugazor.free.fr/software/desinstaller/DesInstaller.php). It removes anything that was installed using the pkg system built into OS X.

As for my vote, I voted 'Don't use a mouse', on the technicality that I use a trackball. :) It is right hand for right handed though.

When I do use a mouse it is usually when I'm doing tech support, and I'm using the current user's setup. I am equally proficient mousing with right or left hands now...

Like some others here I'm ambidextrous (biased towards the right) and switch off, mostly because I'm starting to develop an RSI in my right wrist. Sometimes I'll use two mice/stylii in Photoshop: I'll switch between keyboard and a mouse with my left hand to control menus and filters, and I'll have a stylus in my right hand for detail work.

I'm left handed. I write left. I use the track pad with my left. I manipulate my Tivo controller with my left. But, I use my right hand to control the mouse. Strange, I never thought about it before.

But I don't use a mouse! I use the touch pads on my notebooks (either handed, but mostly right) and a track ball on my PC (right handed). :p

I knew a left handed guy in college who would always move the mouse on the lab computers and leave it on the left just to annoy people...

Me too. I got used to using it that way at a university where my daily computer use was made easier by adapting to others. I am still right brained and multiplex twice as well as left brained fgolks :)

I use a trackpad more often these days (TiG4) but that will soon change (G5 2x2ghz).

Just tried that. The preference pane has gone, and the IntelliPoint app is gone, but it seems to have remembered the bad settings. Oh well, I'm installing Linux this weekend so I'll be formatting anyway (unless someone knows how to resize a partition nondestructively?)

Oh no... I missed the chance to vote do that all the time  . Never mind - I'm left handed and use the mouse in my right hand. This is only because that is where the mouse was plugged in on the first computer we had with a mouse (a little classic with teeny hard drive). The cord wouldn't move over to the left hand side comfortably enough so I decided to use my right hand instead. Though I noticed if I am using a trackpad, it can only be done with my left index finger.

I wonder what the politically correct term for users of the left hand is, I'm surprised given the current nature of English law that calling someone a lefty isn't discrimination or something. (Not that I actually agree with politically correct nonsense!)

On a further note: there are drivers for the intellimouse? That probably explains why there are a few buttons that don't do anything  woops!

Right hand, right mouse.

Although sometimes (if bored) I turn the mouse over and move my finger over the infra-red - rocking the mouse forward to click and dragging the mouse upward or downward across the pad to use the scroll wheel. I'm weird.

The other thing you might wonder is why I'm using a pad with an optical.

Two reasons:

1. Wrist support. I've got one of those pads with a wrist rest

2. Most of the ``computer'' desks nowadays (under $1000) are laminate pressboard. I started wearing the laminate away on my old keyboard drawer by just having the optical mouse on it. It started to look like I pretended to be the karate kid on it after awhile (wax on, wax off)

to resurrect this topic...if you are a leftie that uses a mouse in your left hand, do you:
1) left-click on the right button, after reconfiguring your mouse to switch the button functions around
2) use your middle finger to left click on the left side
3) use your pointer finger to click, resting it on the left button, forgoing any right-clicking capability?

I can't stand using a mouse anymore! Trackpad scrolling and clicking a button with my thumb have become second nature. I can't even remember where I put my bluetooth Apple mouse, let alone when I used it last
