Folding with Multi Users ?

Well folks I finally made the move to OS X. Got a eMac for the kids and will be ordering a G5 soon. Now that I can do folding on a Mac, I have a few questions.

1. I have the eMac set up with multiple users (me, wife, kid 1, kid 2). If I log out so someone else can log in, does Folding quit or does it keep running in the background at the system level?

2. Does Folding run when the computer is in Sleep Mode?

3. Ant other words of wisdom?

In sleep mode the processor basically shuts off.

Folding is almost useless.

Run a Terminal Client, not graphical either mc68k's scripts or your own.

When you log out, everything quits. Folding is just one of the many processes that can run while you're logged in, but other accounts are completely separate from your own account, when it comes to whether folding is running or not.

I don't fold but I'm assuming you can have it run silently as a command-line client like rc5-72? So it starts when the computer starts up and runs with the system rather than the user.

To do this, delete you old folding files and apps, and download mc 68k's script.

double click the script and the terminal will open, but dont worry if you are new to the unix command line (i was when i installed it). It simply asks you a few very simple questions, and once set up, your computer will fold whenever it is switched on, regardless of who is logged in.

to check your folding progress, open the terminal and type 'work'

to temporarily stop folding, type 'stop'

then to restart folding type 'start'

NB. If you type 'stop', the next time the computer is restarted it will automatically continue folding.

Just remember, folding does not continue to run when the computer is sleeping.

That's not completely right. Display sleep means nothing to folding :P. Just set your computer to never sleep. Perhaps check the harddrive if possible thingie but don't force it to sleep fully. Cos that's gay. :D

yeah, sorry about the ambiguity of my statement.

you computer continues to run as normal when your display sleeps.

your computer will not continue to fold, however if you do a full sleep from the apple menu!
