I understand what is happening when my iPod is docked and charging and I know the proper way to unmount it. All of that is working fine.

My objection is to the amount of waste that takes place when it is docked. That flashing DO NOT symbol and the screen at full illumination all day, all evening, all night. In an era of environmental sensitivity, this offends my sensitivities.

Is there no way to dim the screen while my iPod is docked?

Turn off Disk Use, and turn off Manually Manage Music and Videos. Now when its done syncing it will just go to the main menu and dim while charging.
