I have a Powerbook G4 500mhz, and the optical drive is busted. Not worth the money to have apple fix it, I was hoping you guys could help me out. I need to find a place to buy a dvd or combo drive that will fit the powerbook, and instructions on how to do it. I've opened up the powerbook, but haven't been able to get at the optical drive. I might need to take out the hard drive...but I don't have the right tools. Thanks for any help.

Also check Other World Computing (http://eshop.macsales.com/Catalog_Item.cfm?ID=5641&Item=OWCMCT88248)
The price seems a bit more reasonable ($200) and at the bottom of the page you'll find installation instruction. If you do order one, I would be interested in hearing your results - I also own a pBook G4 500.

We sell the drives also. The problem you will run into with the combo drive is that you need a special mounting bracket to install it. I'd probably go for the DVD.
