My one, big request is this: When the iPhone is put to sleep, keep my IM connected and vibrate/sound/popup when I get a message. Does ApolloIM do this yet?

It's in the installer now.
As DJMX said it is not an update, you must uninstall apollo, then install the new one.
It works great and looks great, but I had trouble editing my user name and had to delete my user name and re-enter my info. I had a typo and when I went back in to edit, it would not let me click the user name. I was able to finally get it to accept my password change click after a few tries, but not my user name.

I really like this new UI.
The only problem I see is that there is no indication of whether someone is online via regular settings or if they're on their mobile phone. I usually don't bother talking to folks when they're on mobile.

The UI is Awesome but there is no sound or Notification indicator... doesn't even vibrate... when get a IM... "2 thumps down" You can remove sn by clicking on edit and then go to Delete User..

Having never used mobilechat, I decided to stick it on there. When you sign in to mobile chat apollo comes up and takes over, so I uninstalled apollo and signed back in to mobile chat.
It's much faster and easier to see and use with better options. So I guess this was not a successful update for apollo. As said before it seems meaty, heavy, and sluggish.

I would like these native apps to loose the "stay alive" feature as it drains the battery faster. What they should do is implement what flickim uses. Messages are left on the server while you are "away". You can even receive an IM or an email saying that you have messages (you only get one despite receiving multiple emails, which is good). This way you can always be "online" but you dont have to sacrifice the battery life. Stay online 24/7, only use battery life when your actively chatting.

* Added support for DotMac, ICQ, MSN in addition to AIM. Through libpurple.
* Buddylist notification of open conversation
* Multiple account sign on - I've been on 8 accounts at once, although, I wouldn't recommend more than 2-3 active accounts on edge, otherwise it gets slow real quick
* Sectioned buddy list by accounts
* Away / Unaway via the pretty green dot in the upper right. Tap it, turns red, you're away. Tap it again, turns green, you're back.
* Support for Alias'd buddy names.
* Support for Status Messages - shows up in the buddy list
* Time Stamps in conversation windows
* Removed Buddyinfo, for now
* Preparing to add a pane to "Settings" - eliminates need for "Prefs" button for us, will allow extended user options
* Completely brand new UI.
* Entire application is brand new, recoded from the bottom up. Stability should be amazingly enhanced.
* Wifi Keepalive still requires summerboard.

anyone else having problems downloading Apollo? When I tried to download it, it says
" Error "
Package file size mismatch!
I already uninstall ApolloIM then install 1.0 and already have BSD Subsystem.

If you get an SMS text while in Apollo, dont click to read it.. click ignore. It will crash apollo if you click to view it.
Simply press your home button, and manually go view it.
Only bug I see so far! Awesome release!

By default it won't scroll and you won't be able to access the applications that are located off the screen. So you either need to install the Summerboard application that will modify the home screen to make it scrollable and theme-able or install a launcher application that is basically just an applications type folder.

so guys... from a purely technical standpoint, UI aside, which is the better of the two clients? I feel both MobileChat and Apollo IM are both usable, but would like to settle on whichever one is better currently.
Any thoughts (with reasonable explanations why) ?

Great work Apollo team.. come on MobileChat!;)

I'm sticking with mobilechat. They both have features that the other doesn't so they're about equal. Apollo lacks some of the features I want, and MC has them.
MobileChat needs to have the scrolling fixed and be able to send the message via the return button instead of having to press send.

Can you type in landscape either in MobileChat or Apollo? If not, then that should be a top priority on their next update.

oh well, too bad im not hacking my iphone anymore, its just not worth of to me, but its nice that they are making headway on this program. I hope apple introduces there own IM client for the iPhone. Until then I will just wait and use all the Internet apps. For this that there are.

So, it's great to have .mac support. Congrats to the Apollo developers for being the first. The UI could use a lot of work. My main problem is that the field where you type stuff doesn't expand when you type more than one line (not a hard thing to have caught or to fix, so hopefully they'll fix it soon).

have been testing it all day. It's a really cool app and I can see the future of it. However it is still in develop stage and is not good enough for everyday use. It hanged my iphone twice and it auto quit many times already. And most importantly, it doesn't support Chinese yet!
But I believe that it will get better and better overtime.

First time app launch, the iPhone went straight back into "Home".
Second time app launch, it started! Used my .Mac account in AIM :)

I got the package size error, but after trying about 10 times it went though.
I like that it displays the status and messages of my buddy list. It is a little slow to scroll at times though.
I would like to see an "active" chat section, as is done on mobile chat, that way it is easy for me to get to my current conversations without having to scroll a lot.
I can't seem to play music and chat at the same time, every time I fire up the ipod I get disconnected and once had all my saved login info deleted.

It's working fine for me on EDGE.
My only gripe is there's no preferences, I'd like to turn off sound and turn on vibration.

heyy..about this program.
I don't know if I don't hae the proper settings in there..but it kinda sucks that everytime I am logged in and then I go to home screen or go do other things, I get logged out?
So if i get out of Apollo to do something else basically, when I go back to it later, I have to log in again. Is that how its supposd to work.
If so, any programs that can actually stay up??

Yeah, I seem to be having a problem where I will randomly [so it seems] be booted out. It sort of seems like it happens if I get more than one message at a time.
I can't reaccess my buddy list without relogging in. Even though there will be a number on the icon for the amount of messages waiting for me.

With the 1.0.2 update, I still cannot sign on with T-Mobile EDGE, and I have the Total Internet Plan.
WiFi works fine, but EDGE does not. ****. What a great program, and what a buzzkill to use it.
