I've been bugged by this for a while and was hoping I could get some help. I have a macbook with a hard drive that supposedly has a capacity of 74.21 GB. I only have 5.27 GB of space free and am trying to find out where the other space went.

I have searched for large files (over 50mb) and have deleted all the unneccesary ones. I have 15 GB of music, and my Pictures files is 570 MB.

When I open the Macintosh HD I click get info on the 4 files and they read:

Library 9.04 GB
Users 16.58 GB
System 1.76 GB
Applications 4.05 GB

That's about 30 GB, but where is my other 45 GB? I've tried find programs to optimize my drive (Onyx) and it freed up a little bit of space, but I'm really confused as to where all my free space is.

And yes, I have emptied my trash.

Thanks in advance!

Go to versiontracker.com, get WhatSize or DiskInventoryX and find out what files are consuming the space.

for the record here, what was taking up all the space?
was it a log file?
