I followed the directions on iFixit (http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Mac/iBook-G3-12-Inch/HD-Replacement/50/13/) to replace the original 10GB hard drive with a 60GB. The directions were pretty clear, but when I put it back together and turned it on, it makes some wierd noises and has strange blips across the screen. The unit worked perfectly (albeit slowly) before I loosened any screws, so I doubt a part is bad. I recorded what it does; you can view it here (http://media.putfile.com/500MHz-G3-iBook) (turn your volume up, the video is a bit quiet). The question marked folder is expected, as I haven't done anything with it since I put the hard drive in this afternoon.

Any ideas as to what's going on?

Use an external enclosure on your old hd and try booting off it via. Firewire. Is the new one still inaccessible? Try doing it the other way around, is it still a problem?

I don't have a Firewire enclosure and I don't really want to plunk $25 down just for troubleshooting one issue. If I rip this thing apart again, can I just plug the old one in with the cover off and try it that way (provided I plug in both the power button conector and speaker connector)?

Also, if I take this to an Apple store, do they still do free estimates?
