Delete the sound driver

I would like to delete the sound driver for an iMac g5. Any suggestions.

There may not even be a sound driver. It's probably integral to the OS, and may not be deletable like Windows.

Press the mute button and you'll get rid of your sound until you repress it, even if you restart.

Plug a pair of earbuds, or a dummy 3.5mm plug, into the headphone output as a low tech way of muting the machine.

I don't know what else to say other then I want no output of sound to be possilbe by the computer...

I think the confusion here may be due to a misunderstanding. Is this a student operated computer, rather then the teacher's computer?

In that case my idea would be to make a user account for the student that does not allow access to control panels and then turn on mute.

If it is a teacher computer then I don't see why the headphone solution wouldn't work. You could also plug in some external speakers and turn them off.

It is a lab of student machines in which we do not want any sound coming from any of the Student Machines. Does this also turn off the response from the keyboard volume controls if I restrict the user account from the sound controls?

I don't think so but you could plug in any keyboard. On my Aluminum keyboard, at least, you can turn off all of the special features so that the keys are only function keys. I don't know if it is an option on older keyboards but you can look in the Keyboard & Mouse pref. pane.

I looked on the Apple discussion groups and it seems like you should probably run them all from a server with the workgroup manager.

Ya, i was going to edit that as a last resort.

removing that file did nothing.

/Library/Audio folder and /System/Library/Frameworks/CoreAudio.framework/ and /System/Library/Frameworks/CoreAudioKit.framework/

computer wont boot when modifying those files. :(

Nevermind. When I totally remove the file from that directory it works, I guess renaming it was not enough.
