I figured this would be a good idea for those who don't want to waste time downloading all of the themes just to see what they look like.

This is what I'm using at the moment, and I think it looks fantastic. It's the Louie Mantia theme.

If you look in the bottom right corner of the screenshot, you'll see a little light burst. That's the Dock program you can download through Installer.app which I'm pretty sure allows you to take screen shots on the phone.

I made my own, but for prepackaged sb themes I like the tubs the best followed by paxman. Non SB themes, but in the installer, phiberglass wins hands down.

I love some of the themes, but how can I add my own custom icons to a certain theme?

For example, I love "Paxman" but I would like the replace the text, youtube, and calculator icons. Any easy way to do this?

where did you get that one?
Try the modmyiphone.com forums. There are quite a few people who make packages available there rather than directly through summerboard.

sFTP to your phone and the icons are in var/root/library/summerboard/themes/theme name/icons.

The icons need to be the same name as the app. Just plop them in the icons folder and reset springboard.

Here's a theme I whipped up a little while ago. Unfortunatly the oversize icons don't work with Summerboard so its a combination of permenantly changing the dock icons and using Sb for the rest.

If you mean the reflection of the dock icons, it's in some of the themes. I use phiberglass, and it has the reflections in it.

If you can still see the installer app icon, go on there and install 'launcher'. That will be like a windows start menu for all apps on the phone. Using that, I have hidden the tech apps, leaving only my games and installer. Let us know if that works.

Congrats on making the phone more personal. And look, you didnt even take down the A&T network. To change your carrier logo, install the customise app. Then grab some of the image files that go along with it.

How did you hide the icons?

I didn't, uploaded new icon.png files for the dock icons and use summerboard to change the rest; although I could have just uploaded new icons into the application folders.

rSBT will let you hide applications, but then you will need to use a Launcher to use the apps.

I saw that there is a "Skip Last Row" option in SummerBoard. I used that option once but then the Summerboard icon itself went missing. I didn't how to proceed so tried uninstalling it through iBrickr and the phone froze...so I had to restore and unlock it again.

Can someone please explain me if I need to use some other tool along with summerboard if I'm using the Skip last row option? Or will the icons be available if I scroll through the spring board after using the "Skip last row" option? Can you please let me know?

How do you rearrange/hide icons that are on your springboard? I saw some people suggest the customize app but it seems like you need ibrickr installed to install it. I'm running version 1.1.1 of the iphone firmware so I don't think I can install ibrickr. Any suggestions? I do have summerboard installed through the Installer app. Also, I saw some people talk about sFTP for the iphone as a way of changing files. How do you do this?

Speakerwizard (or anyone else): once you create or download the .app file from the iPhone Apper website, how do you go about getting the app onto your iphone? I tried going to the site and downloading it through safari, but it wouldn't let me. :confused:

I got the black and white theme with splashes of red.

I installed that Dock tool just to take a screenshot, but uninstalled it after. Couldn't figure out how to take a screenshot of the lock screen, I changed the slide to unlock to say oh snap... and changed the arrow a bit.

A couple of my friends really thought I unlocked the phone to use Verizon.

sloppily doodled the icons (36 so far) and scanned them in. many of them really need to be redone so they're more recognizable but it was more an exercise in boredom than a real effort. The white background really doesn't work with the white text so i just added the black squiggles to the wallpaper.

It's been a really long day so I'm sorry for asking what I know is a terribly simple question. How do you get the two/three little white dots at the bottom of the iPhone which enables the pages of icons?

That's Apple's hidden addition to SpringBoard in anticipation of third-party apps. You can either utilise SummerBoard 3.x on iPhone/iPod 1.1.x firmware, or use a patched version of SpringBoard to enable it.

EDIT: I suppose it's worthy to mention that this addition was first placed in the 1.1.1 update. And so it doesn't work on the 1.0.x versions of iPhone firmware.

I'm slightly annoyed that the download from installer.app does not include themed icons for the PHOTOS or CAMERA buttons :( I've seen a couple screenshots online of this theme, with those icons themed and matching. I just jailbreaked my phone to v1.1.2 (had no issues and was fairly simple, need to work on a public blog so I can post stuff like this, or I guess make another "here's how I jailbroke my phone" thread, ick). At any rate I completely forgot the name of theme I used and none of the ones shown here were it. I went through and took screenshots of all the themes that weren't listed elsewhere in this thread and are listed in installer. Actually only two were missing. First theme is called "Smooth" (this was the one I used, but use a custom background) and second theme is "Paxman". Prior to this I've used the Louie Mantia theme pretty much since the beginning, wanted to change things up. Mystique I really like as well I may switch to every so often.

bbplayer - I've been looking for the blue version of the stock leopard wallpaper for the iPhone for a while now! May I ask where you found it?

I'd take a screen shot of mine but the screenshot app in installer is a disaster for me. Twice now it's almost flat out destroyed the phone. Couldn't even get into installer it till 5 reboots.

showkati - that's what I'm going to try next. I can tell your icons are in "dock" cuz I see the little starburst light. I also thought of doing a transparent icon theme but haven't yet experimented. I do find "dock" a bit difficult to use though. I often wish the corner area was just a wee bit bigger. It's hard to grab and I'm female with rather petite fingertips.

meagain i know what you mean it sucks at first but if you do it enough times your finger kinda adapts to the motion. here's the trick, you wanna press your finger on the sun then after a split-second drag your finger SLOWLY towards the middle of the phone.

You have to add them manually, or add sources like modmyifone's. To add them manually, go to var/root/Library/Summerboard/Themes. Then add a new folder with the name of the theme. Put the Wallpaper.png, StatusBar.png, and/or Dock.png there, make sure the names are pefect, even to the case of the letter. Then make a new folder called Icons, make sure its a capital I. Then add the icons which are named with perfect upper or lowercase. Like the icon for Summerboard needs to be SMBPrefs.

Just go to /var/root/Library/Summerboard. Choose the theme you would like to edit, and overwrite that dock with the reflection dock.

Use installer to install one theme and then use that as a guide to sFTP other theme files. sFTP programs are drag and drop.

How do i sftp, i tried connecting via fetch but it rejects my password? I need instructions from the perspective on someone who doesn't know anything.

If you have used Fetch then you know how to sFTP files, its no different than regular FTP.

Make sure you are doing a sFTP and not a regular FTP.

Info is straight forward

Host: IP address
User: root
Pass: change it like I mentioned in the other thread and use that.

Install Summerboard and any theme.

In Fetch look at the permissions and file structure Library > Summerboard > Themes > Name of theme and match them. Try installing a second theme and copy it to your computer. Delete it from your phone in Fetch and try uploading it. Hint if you copy your theme folder onto the Themes icon, rather than being in the Themes folder, it will set the correct permissions for you.

Use Summerboard to change your themes.

I still remember when the new summerboard version came out and people were so annoyed by it now being in "panes" like other iphone type apps instead of just a long scrollable list, which I liked as well since it made more sense for how you can interact with the phone to have a single long list, but now if they changed it back to scrolling up and down people would complain about that.

If there's anything I've learned from interface design is people HATE absolutely HATE change. There have been so many times I've been showing users a different program or a new design and they're first reaction is "why is it different?" The day leopard came out, if not before people were already trying to figure out how to reverse all the new changes to leopard. I play unreal 3 and I always hear people online saying they set all the graphics setttings to the lowest setting so it looks more like unreal tournament 2004.

hey guys! this is my first post over here! i'm a frequent over in HoFo and a long time lurker here!

Anyways, as my 1st post, I finally got up the courage to jailbreak my 2 iPhones today, and was just wondering (and maybe this is a stupid question since I'm a n00b to the modding scene), but I see a lot of people changing carrier logos (where it says AT&T and replacing it with other images)...

I saw where someone said to download the customize app from the installer.app, i did that, but when I go to the rainbow icon for the customise app, all it says is "thespicychicken.com" with a picture of a chicken and i can't do anything...any suggestions?

**EDIT: So I got the Customize program to come up, but I'm a bit confused as to how to get different carrier logos into the program....hmmm**

Okay so I finally figured out how to do most of this on my own, so I figured I'd post.

I liked someone's theme on here so much, I'm pretty much using it just like they did, then I played with our 2 iphones to demonstrate the colored chat bubbles. Not like all of you don't know how to do it, but I was proud of myself! :D

Actually that happened to me too, the same thing with the weather icon.

I did a restore and re jailbroke my iPhone, all is working now.

This is a rather unique coincidence... I decided when I got an iPhone that, since I wanted it to merge my four main modes of communications (Phone, Email, SMS & IM), I would make the four dock icons those four apps - Just like you. ALSO, my last name is Rogers!

I took PlainJainDim theme, a custom Wallpaper, and made a new dock to work with the 4 icons. so that if/when I change the Wallpaper to anything else, the Dock will still look good.

Am new to all this Jailbreaking and stuff. Basically while in the US I bought a unlocked iPhone off someone so I could use it back in the UK (wasn't released in the UK at the time). It is 1.1.1 and I have no 3rd party apps at all but I do have a installer app.

I took icons from a theme called Black or something, and took the dock from another them and just changed it. I have the theme at work, so maybe i can get it for ya next week.

Only problem is it wont work with 1.1.3 because you cant have a 5 icon dock :(

I have both SummerBoard and Customize. I use Customize to change the appearance of different graphics like the battery icon or the speaker picture that comes up when you use the side volume buttons. I used to use it to change the order of icons and the number of icons in the dock - but that was before I upgraded to 1.1.3. You can also change different sounds and the calculator and weather application graphics using Customize. SummerBoard only changes the SpringBoard wallpaper, icons, and dock plus lets you hide the text displayed under the icons.

How do you make those custom icons and backgrounds??? How do you install 3rd party apps like games, and gameboy, and stuff like that? Do you have to jailbreak the phone? I want to customize mine like crazy, but I don't want to void the warranty or do anything crazy like that.

yer dude u need to jailbreak it you wont really void the warranty as u can always restore it.

once jailbroken u can make ur own themes and SSH them onto ur phone :D

Yes, even doing a restore leaves traces on the phone; however, with a fully restored phone I'm not sure how Apple would be able to browse the filesystem.

Problem with stacks is that only launching an app hides the stacks icon. If you launch Apollo, for example, leave it and go back the stacks icon will float on top of the keyboard. Use Categories instead.

I just got done researching the SDK update that's coming out real soon. Is there a reason to jailbreak rather than the safer and legal way, doing the SDK update? Also, if anyone knows a lot about SDK, will I be able to mod my background to anything I want like this thread shows? Thanks again guys.

How? my understanding of doing a full restore (ie get it into whatever that mode is called when it just shows the icon to connect to itunes) it erases the whole drive and reinstalls. At that point the only option to get the data would be some data forensics stuff, and even then who knows what will still be readable. I've gone through a jailbreak, restore it, rejailbreak it and any files I had stored on there was gone.

That's why a firmware update bricked sim unlocked phones because they played with the modem settings. But if you just do a software jailbreak for a phone using a legitimate service provider, I don't see how it would leave any traces.

You can evenm reset the modem settings that you fiddled with to unlock the phone by using "The Virginizer" once you have the i.unlock.no repository in installer. Once you have run that you have to restore the phone and it is completely untraceable. For more info, see http://iphone.unlock.no/

1. Themes do work but to unlock you will have to downgrade to 1.1.1 and go from there to get a jailbroken 1.1.3 (see www.iphone.unlock.no for what I think is the easiest and simplest guide to do so.)
2. You only need SMBPrefs which can be easily be installed in installer and is found under System.
3.To customize the slide to unlcok icon you need Customize which, again, can be found in installer but this time you will need to find other Image Packages, also found in installer which give you the ability to change virtually every button, switch and icon.

N.B you can't have more than 4 icons in the dock in 1.1.3 so I would stick to 1.1.2 if that is a big deal to you.

ive got a 1.1.3 16gb ipod which i unlocked with the ziphone in 3 mins;) however ive installed this summerboard thing but how do i use it? i dont see any icons on my display. the only thing that has worked so far is the navizon which i used andcan see on my display making the locate me work... ice n=installed wallpapeers and stuff but cant see any icons or where to open them up:( help!!!!!!

yes. did you reboot? if yes, try unistalling and reinstalling. :confused:

Not sure where your wallpapers are downloading, but I suggest checking somewhere in /var/root as Installer likes to deposit things here that need to be elsewhere to work. To add any wallpaper you've found online, just drag them into a new album in iPhoto and sync the album to the iPhone.
