Do you need some type of MIDI controller/keyboard to create instrumentation in Logic? If so are there any suggestion on an econmically starter one?

No-you can use Logic's Caps Lock keyboard to do this.

You can use the "caps lock keyboard" for different instruments sounds-eg. by using the EXS24 .
