OK. Owning a phone should not be this difficult.

So I bought an iPhone, having t-Mobile as a carrier, I unlocked it.
Now this whole mess of updates and and re-locking, etc. is giving me a headache.

I'm trying to decide whether just to ditch TMO & sign up with AT&T.
The 2 plans are not that far apart.
In fact the AT&T plan seems better.

So how do I switch to AT&T now?
Do a restore, pop in the AT&T SIM and activate?

any insight?

If you have the option of using AT&T why not?

Yes, do a system restore.
Then pop in the original sim and activate it normaly thru itunes.

Yeah, but if you did an unlock (and if you are on T-Mo, you did), do NOT install the new software upgrade if and when it ever comes out. Apple is hinting it will brick any unlocked phones- even those suddenly made "legal" again by going to ATT.

You will need to "Relock" that phone, and there is no good "relock" system in place yet!

Really?
I thought when you do a complete restore it brings everything back to the day you bought it.

how long have you had it?

You could always try to return it for some mystery reason.

You created your own problem

Owning a phone isn't difficult if you accept the product the way it came.. Moreover, the provider it came with..

No difficulties there, eh?

If At&t's plan is better than t-mobile, why did you even go with t-mobile in the first place?

IDK. maybe i was intrigued about the unlocking of the phone.
maybe i just didn't want to switch after 7 years of TMO service.

Nope. The unlock actually changes the phones modem firmware. You need to wait for the official "Lock" software next week to fix the modem firmware. A normal restore won't fix this.

you cant do a restore, as someone else said. You will have to wait for the "relock" tool.

Crazy... I didn't know this. YET another reason to just submit to AT&T. Shoots.

Wow, so you'll need to relock it.
Too much of a pain, just go straight with AT&T. Tmobile is definetelly not worth the hassle or risk IMO.

I'm beginning to realize this. I was cool at first, and definitely impressed some friends.

It wouldnt be so difficult if you just switched to AT&T. It is definatly worth the switch, and its so easy to do.

I hear that, its kinda cool to look like the iphone hacker for a while :)
But in the end its better to get all the features available for the phone like visual voicemail etc....
And not have to worry about updates, more hacking, not be able to install new features or sync with itunes, get locked out of youtube...

Plus you get Visual Voice Mail. By far one of the most productive/cool features of the iPhone.

And I say this because no one else has it.
