I think a microphone would be pretty nice for lectures.

and a MIC and AM/Fm tuner that you can record from!

Amen, adamfilip. I want that feature so bad because I hate lugging around my powerbook when I'm on photo shoots!

where was the "none of the above" option?...i had to settle for the most logical option: remote.

A microphone would be cool, though I must say I would rather see it built into the 4th gen ipod, rather than an add on. WiFi seems pointless, one of the big selling features of the ipod in its use of firewire/usb2.0. Even with 802.11g thats only 54Mb/s, a far cry from 400 out of firewire. Can't wait to see what it turns out to be though.

What about XM radio or just a plain radio accessory? Seems like a natural fit - listen to the radio or your entire CD collection.

What I really want is a dock for my car. Something that will fit into a DIN sized slot.

I had never thought of a mic before for the ipod. I was more of a am/fm reciever or pda feature kind of guy, but after reading posts in the previous thread, I think I could really use an ipod in my work if I could hook a mic up to it, and that would mean I'd have a good reason to buy an ipod...that's a good thing.

I'd like to see a cable:
Male Firewire --> Female USB
to connect to digital camera to let you off load memory cards into the iPod when you're out and about.

1. Radio, with option to record.
2. Wi-Fi transceiver would be nice also. Not good for 5GB worth of songs, but good to update a album or 2.
3. Microphone (never thought of it before, but does sound intriguing).

AM/FM Radio and microphone. Although, microphone not as high a priority as the radio.

Where is the video playing option... I don't care if I have to watch a DivX on a 2 inch screen, its better than no movie at all.

i want to be able to hook up high quality XLR mics so as to record live concerts.
maybe some kinda hi-fi dock with rca/xlr/1/4" in/out?

A camera? The iPod doesn't have color. It would be a bit tough to see what you were taking on that grayscale screen.
A cd burner? The MAC is the digital hub, and all of them have CD-RW drives, if not superdrives.
A video playing option? What would that be, another screen? Maybe in the next gen iPods, if they have built-in color and higher res.
A remote? But the "superdock" concept includes a remote. Wouldn't it be nice to have a remote when you are using the iPod with your stereo? Presumably the superdock connects to the stereo. Also, the wifi module would best be incorporated into the superdock so that you can sync new albums to the iPod but leave it where it is near the stereo. These concepts were mentioned a number of months ago. The features on their own aren't too appealing, but the combination could be nice.
Now, these interesting solutions for digital cameras have sparked my interest, but that's hardly a product announcement on its own. Apple likes to impress. Maybe the memory readers/cables could be announced simultaneously with the superdock and microphone. That's a nice complement of new peripherals.

Add the radio into my last paragraph. That would make another nice new addition.

So I can download my digital camera pictures while on vacation.
Don't really care if I can see them maybe just B&W previews. It is a lot easier to justify a $300 mp3 player if it can save me $100's of dollars in memory cards for my long vacations.

The biggest win for my iPod would be if I could download photos - just to store, not to view - from my camera.
On my vacation I had the iPod & camera, but had max'd out my CF card... If only I could have downloaded I'd have been very happy.
I think lots of people (especially while travelling) would see benefit in not having to buy huge CF cards ($$$) and having a backup in case the camera is stolen or the card flakes out.
If it had that facility, I would have bought the 30G rather than the 15G iPod too - so there's revenue for Apple in it as well.

The ipod is so close to being a pda with a mini-keyboard as a peripheral it would be one. Just think a 30 gig pda, add some 3rd party software and wow.

I'd like to see a thin touchscreen that flips over the back of the iPod (like a flip-phone cover that flips all the way over) that performs the functions of the old Apple Newton, with good handwriting recognition. I'd like to have a fully-featured PocketPC from Apple, and the iPod is a great place to start since it has a hard drive (but needs a processor and an OS?)

Just a little mic intregrated, and wifi integrated. Then it will be perfect. Anything else is superfluous.

i think being able to plug a camera in to d/l the pics is the coolest idea... also the high quality mic option... then it would be easier to have more hight quality howie day recordings... and that would be awesome

I can't vote for any of those....
what I want to see is cheaper prices, and that's about it....

I liked the idea about the car dock. VW got the idea !
I liked the idea about download pictures off of a camera (USB on the go).
My favorite is a PDA, actually the Newton. I agree the straight PDA would be a non-inteligent move. So add the phone.
So my idea iPod/Newton device would be a :
- Tri-mode cell phone
- Newton+ PDA
- iPod
... iPal :)

i may have missed it, but everyone seems to be missing the real power that could come from having a mic. that power is speech recognition. if there was a mic and some software, you could browse the library hands free. speech has always been buggy but it would be a nice option for when driving. a few simple commands then artist album track number/song title and your listening to the beastie boys. yeah sabotage!

This is one of the closer polls we've had. As of midnight on the west coast, there are 707 votes for "Microphone" and 696 votes for "WiFi or Bluetooth Module". That's less than a 2% difference. I wonder if this one will end up in the Supreme Court??
I voted for Super Dock earlier today because I imagined the iPod becoming the center of a stereo system. I hadn't even considered the speech recognition idea. Wow!

Hey i would love to see a device that allows you to connect a CARD READER so that all devices with a MEMORY card can connect and dump all the info on them. I have asked local people if they have anything like this comming out and they told me its been a topic of interest for a while
So yeah bring on a device like this and with Digital Camera use so widespread this would be a great selling device for Apple.
If this becomes a reality can someone please email me or send me the link.
Otherwise you can BUY something called an X-DRIVE II, its a tiny 2.5" box enclosure with a 6 in 1 card reader and an LCD screen. It can hold whatever 2.5 had drive you have or buy it with ( they are interchangeble) Although IPOD would be much better and SMALLER to carry around.
It can be used standalone or even with a computer at USB 2.0 speeds.
You can get a 60GIG one for $500AUD MAX which is around $320 US$
If anyone needs more info i have the ONLINE SELLER PAGE where i bought mine from!

What I really want to see is data storage like the Palm. So it would need a dock to synchronize the data ans upload new software!

yeah, if our macs can do it, i really think the iPod could be tweaked out quite easily to handle it. god its soo obvious that it really NEEDS to be done, because there really needs to be a solution for trying to navigate that tiny screen while driving. yeah its nice to have all those cds in your hand, but i can locate a cd underneath the seat safer than finding it on the pod...
if we could just say "Hey (activation word pre programed with itunes), less than jake, play", and the album starts from track one, that would be perfect. lots of simple activation words!! then the remote (on the mic, just like on the standard iPod remote) could handle the rest easily. god youd never have to take it out of the sleeve again!
god its the coolest most functional idea yet. im soo proud of myself! ok im finished

A sneaky marketing tip for Apple: When you add speech recognition, require users to say "iPod,..." at the beginning of each sequence of commands or dictation. Sure, it would be annoying for users, but think of all those other people on the subway or in the post office line or at the beach, who see you doing amazing things and keep hearing the name of the product. Even better than those TV shows that broadcast the same exact commercial 4 times during a 1-hour show. Everyone would have the name "iPod" in their thoughts, and Apple would sell millions more. :)
Uh oh, wait. What if they were trying to read a book and you kept disturbing them by saying "iPod!" I retract my suggestion, Apple.
