Hi all:)

While I'm anxiously awating for my touch to arrive, I've been trying to fill in the missing album art of my music. I'd like to know what's the best resolution to get them displayed on the touch. I don't want to put huge artwork into my iPod so it doesn't take up too much space, but I don't want it to be too small for me to properly enjoy it.

The artwork seems to be displayed quite big on the touch:

What do you guys think?

Cheers
Daniel

I would say at least 500x500 but I think you might be able to get away with 400x400 with little to no noticeable difference.

seriously? :( so far I was just getting 300x300 and 240x240 artwork. I thought I'd be fine with that....I guess I'm just gonna have to start all over again

can anyone confirm this?

In the Depths of the SLC!
I think this is funny because it seems some of my album art is higher quality than what itunes puts my images at in my photos. But I think itunes resizes them for the pod... I think that is. At least 300x300 and you should be fine!

Yeah, during the syncing process, the artwork is resized for the song. So you'll definitely get by with a 300x300 resolution for each song, though it might look better in iTunes at a higher resolution.

The screen's resolution is 480x320 px, and since the alum takes up the entire width of the screen, the artwork size should be at least 320x320, although 300x300 will look just fine, same with anything over 320x320, as iTunes will scale this when it puts the song on your iPod.

I don't really care about how they look like on iTunes. I just wanted for them to look good on my iPod touch:D

The iPod touch's got a 480-by-320 pixel screen, so I figured 240x240-300x300 pixel artwork would look good, since I think the artwork never takes up all of the screen. I could be wrong, though.

500x500 at least. If you can't find anything that size, try cutting down an 800x600, 1024x768, or 1280x1024 wallpaper. Most people are lazy bastards and just blow up albums for wallpaper, you can find them all over the net. If you can't find them, try mixing pics with photoshop! :)

You also want to take into consideration that the bigger the album art, the bigger the music file you will have. If you have 500x500 (which I think is plenty) it will add over .5mb to your song. That may not seem like a lot, but if you have a bunch of different albums, it will add up over time, making less space for music.

Just a thought.

lol, now I'm confused: is 300x300 going to be fine for seeing on the iPod touch (I don't care about iTunes)? Some are saying it is, others are saying I should get at least 500x500. Help:p!

I would say 250x250 - 300x300 is enough. When I posted 500x500 in my post above, I was saying that was more than enough. Anything more would just be overkill in my opinion. I had used most of the album cover images from Amazon, they seemed to be the right size without resizing the pictures.

If your pictures look alright on your monitor already, they would definitely look fine on your touch, as it is a smaller screen.

Hope that helps, but keep in mind this is just my opinion (but one that is going to remain true is the bigger the pic, the bigger the file size=less songs).
