Which 21" CRT Monitor for a Powerbook?

I recently purchased a Viewsonic P817 monitor for my graphic design work with a resolution of 2,048 x 1,536 @ 85Hz. When I hooked it up to my Powerbook g4 667 15", the screen went black and a red light came on, pretty much killing my opportunity of seeing all my work on a larger screen!

Too high of a resolution? Was this not the correct monitor for my powerbook? Should I try something with a lower resolution like a P815 or P810 or something totatlly different?

Need some advice. Tired of this 15" screen. Time for 21".

Well, what PowerBook do you have?

The 17" PowerBook supports an external display at 2048x1536 at 75 Hz.

The 12" PowerBook supports an external display at 1920x1080 at 60 Hz.

And if you're using a 15" PowerBook, what kind?

The 400/500MHz supports 1280 x 1024 at 75 Hz.

The 550/667MHz (October 2001) supports 1920 x 1440 at 75 Hz.

The 667/800MHz (April 2002) supports 2048 x 1536 at 75 Hz.

The 867MHz/1GHz supports 2048 x 1536 at 75 Hz.

These are all for CRTs.

It's a 15" powerbook g4. I think that information might help. Accoding to the settings on my computer, I am currently running at the max 1152x768.

just go to monitor pref and change to a lower resolution.crts scale easily to other res's. start from scratch take out the vga then put back and restart then make sure everythin is correct you may want to mirror displays at 1024x768 or 800x600 since all dispalys can do that but i am not sure on the ti first to make sure everything is connected tightly and correctly

If you really want to get a new 21" display, I really like the Lacie electron blue 22". Or the Mitshubishi Diamatron 22", they are the same display.

But first, try setting the external to a lower res. 17" CRT would be about right at 1280x1024, 1600x1200 would be getting pretty tight, and anything beyond that may not be supported by the CRT. The 22" Lacie/Mits gos to some stupid high res.
