Boston Globe 8/25/03 in Business & Innovation "Bright Ideas" LED to replace the incandescent bulb. Apple has applied for a patent to make computer with an exterior that changes colors. Could it be a return of the rainbow color Mac?

Wasn't this floating around a while ago too? It sounds interesting, but not anything I'd pay extra for.

yep this is very old news. nothing panned out, you have to remember Apple has patents on a lot of stuff that they've never used-- just that they've been interested in.

Plus, Apple's aesthetic is clear and defined, and I don't think they're liable to go colorful-bulbous-toy anytime soon... anything with a color-changing case would probably look as cheap and tacky as one of those christmas trees that has fiber optic branches

If you've seen an iBook's sleep light, or the light on the G4 cube, I think that's what this patent covers...
