MacBook fan racing & no Safari

Out of the blue, my normally quiet 4 month old (desktop) macbook started racing. Was just on a message board (no downloads, graphics, heavy lifting, etc.) at the time. Sleeping it turns off fan. Didn't want to shut down before troubleshooting. Can call Apple but thought would check here first. Any ideas?
 
Still having problems, mate? Have you tried running the Apple Hardware Test from the restore discs? 🙂
