Honestly, I wondered the same thing. I can't figure out a purpose, only a "just because I could" type of answer...

What I do is put my whole itunes collection in my sites folder, turn on websharing, then when at school I can go to http://myip/~myuser/itunes/ and get my whole library and listen to it from there.
