I just saw a huge gadget - a guy pulled it out of his trunk in the airport parking lot of all places. It's about the size of a fat laptop and just as heavy. The screen flipped up revealing a DVD player, and the back had a cutout for a full size Ipod. Two built in speakers.

I know I don't get out as much as I used to, but WHAT is this thing?

I guess you don't go to the Apple Stores then. It'd be something along the lines of this product.

Yes, I visited one on Wednesday. No, they are not in the stores. I called the Atlanta (Lenox) store today, they said it was a "promotional" item and was prototype in nature. Most likely would not go into production or something like that. But he knew about it, although he'd never seen one either he said.

I should have snapped a photo with my cellphone - it's not quite like the links you posted (although I was hoping it was). All Apple white, with "Illuv" written across the top in red. Screen flipped up and there was the actual DVD. Underneath/back of the unit was the hole for an Ipod, covered with clear plastic. Heavy, felt like a brick. Big batteries, two fairly large speakers built-in. It was bright daylight, screen wasn't too clear of course. Sounded like laptop speakers.
